wow.
there's snow in the mountains and more coming - and next 3 weeks looking to be very wintry.
this season has been an emotonal roller coaster on a nearly daily basis, but hard to complain about the skiing since new year's.
yea, 50-degrees here, but it is what it is.
this page has to be the most pitiful display of group depression ever in the EC roll call...in spite of the fact that we now have a solid base in the northern half of VT. i didn't hit anything even resembling a water bar all day sunday at MRG and that was a treat in spite of the sometimes slick surfaces.

No more consolation prizes, pattern looking golden by the weekend
It is now just a few days away. A few days and things should really start to get interesting at MRG. Two months of trying to make the most of a mostly lousy weather pattern and finally as we move toward February the stars align. The jet energy across the Pacific Northwest will undergo a complete collapse over the next week allowing a large ridge to develop across the western United States. Even better, this ridge will extend northward over western Canada right along 135 west ultimately reaching the polar regions. It is a development that should make us ecstatic since not too many weather features can make me as happy. The ridge across the west will eventually combine forces with another large ridge across over Greenland. Hopefully, the whole thing just turns into one big "high latitude block party". All the cold and snow can descend into the mid-latitudes and do so for an extended period of time.
There is a lot of potential over the next 2-3 weeks. Clippers, East Coast bombs, Gulf of Mexico monsters. We have the potential for all of it and we have earned it since we have certainly done enough time in the can this winter. I won't get too specific with this update. There is some powder to ski Monday and the push of warm air Wednesday will have an inch or two of snow preceding it on Tuesday. The Wednesday warmth however is a one day event. One afternoon of above freezing temps before the talk shifts to snow and eventually cold. Our first potential storm comes from a southern Rockies weather system that will push through the Midwest Thursday. Models are all over the place with this system. The Euro shows a nice hit Friday for most of Vermont but there are a few contrary opinions. As this new and much more amplified weather pattern begins to take shape over the weekend of the 4th and 5th, the chances for powder start coming from everywhere and very frequently. For example, several model runs have a Gulf of Mexico low pressure area blowing up and evolving into a massive snow producer in the Sunday/Monday time frame. Additional reenforcing amplifications throughout next week will provide more snow possibilities. It should be a good time to be alive in Vermont so as Bob Dylan used to say get busy doing it.

Damn guys, I have two days on 138's already this year, one was legit pow and the other was for crust on 6" of fresh cream. Several tours, and skied trees at least 6 days this year. N. VT is ready to roll. Sure it's not like last winter, but there is still skiing to be had.
Maybe you guys need some ketamine?

This is from two weeks ago at Jay, just made a quick edit. I'm lousy with video editing and technology in general, this is day 1 stuff basically. Tunes added for comedic purposes only.

Got a week of vaca to just lounge around NVT and chase some pow. It sucks that work always gets on the way of fun. Those who can, get out and enjoy it!

Dude you realize that is BC not resort where it is buffed out. I would be more than stoked to have you come up and shred, the whole resort is in, no paucity of base at this point. I mean compared to a good year yeah its low, but I was post holing all day in chest deep snow in the notch. Quality pics and vid were taken. We knocked off first tracks on a few chutes and a nice tree line. Been snowing hard all day free refills were starting every where. I look out my window right now and its dumping, I hope that the forecasts are wrong. I know its tough but there is more than a significant difference between north and south vt right now, normally there is not this much disparity, just been a weird year.
and I am with Rdennih- that POV was the best I have seen this year. Captured how good yesterday was.

Pure gold!
Bump for sweet looking turns. Awesome vid HA.
So sweet. Trying to make Friday happen. If it does not ra*n up there. And if does f*ck it. What can ya do? No sense in getting pissed. TC just sent me a pair of original TC Vape Cloud rose color glasses and now all is right in the world - I keep hearing talk of the NAO shifting negative and "high latitude block parties" bringing in "Clippers, East Coast bombs and Gulf of Mexico monsters". Here it comes. Bring it! What we have been waiting for. Strap them on and enjoy. No more negative energy. Ya get what ya get and ya don't get upset.

Hahahahaha . . . keep it buttah but must warn you that 9 out of 10 doctors say that that negative energy and stress can prematurely age the body and mind. Just saying . . .
I think we need a summit and some serious partying to get over this funk. How about Early March? NEK? Where it snows?

Shhhhhh. I am wearing my rose colored glasses

Lots of truth here but great video nonetheless.
TC, HA and the other boys in the Notch are seeing things very differently from the rest of us. Hell, I haven't had more than an inch of snow in my yard at any one time this entire "Winter" so it's tough to remember that there's some snow somewhere near. The motivational stoke is appreciated!

Skiing deep pow with you is high priority for my winters, I hope you come around dude and make the drive when work allows.
Here are some iphone pics, I had a new camera out today so I am working on the action stuff. Wind did wonders for the notch on the right aspects along with the new snow, turns were 2 feet deep of fresh in parts on a firm base.

Da Bowl was a MAJOR disappointment today.
Arrived to find that the Hill had been overrun by gapers
The bastards had skied out all of the good lines
The Missus seemed to like the snow even though it was completely tracked out
Even the Bottleman made a few turns in the silky snow
Best day of the year for these old geezers. Country club day with 2" of silk on top of nice corduroy. Nice to ski without hearing your turns

No gnar was slayed but there were literally a dozen tracks on the Allen when we arrived at 12:30. Most MCSB skiers HATE the untracked

it could always be worse
got yer pm, I will see you when I get from japan
ok another caption contest may be in order, last time was laughs
strawjack- I am now below you, magic snow and magic posts. Bring the whole family, I have been running a ski hostel this year anyway
Seriously no harm meant, not like I am shrouding lines in secrecy, I have been fielding a constant stream of EC roll callers coming up and looking for some turns. Some hit it good some dont, we have been getting the rain and warm as well, just luckily getting decent snow on the front and back ends also. I am stoked to do it, although my bank account is starting to suffer...
