Thanks to all for the place to crash at Magic Saturday. Hope you guys enjoy the Otter Creek. Good seeing so many people again. Sorry I recognized a bunch of people that I didn't get the chance to talk to. That may have had something to do with winning the "largest tab of the night" award.

Skiing at Killington was mehh. Lots of chopped up man made. Was looking for smooth surfaces to let the race skis run. 27M GS skis rock. Scared the sh*t outta myself a few times.

Tried out the new Pure 195 W95's (old version w/ bamboo sidewalls) in the afternoon. Those things remind me of Superbros with their ability to plow through everything, but more forgiving / less hold on ice. The tip is better at going over moguls than the Superbros too. Swing weight is so light, it doesn't feel like you have a 195 ski (actually mine are modded to 190 cus I cut part of the tail off) when you want to throw them around in bumps. Maybe it was because I had just been on race skis that want to stick the tip right into a mogul and make you go over the handlebars, but the W95's seemed to go over and through everything.

They did ok doing big GS turns at 40 too. Coming off WC GS skis, they felt slightly dead and squirley on ice, but that is to be expected. The smooth groomers were rock hard. Like you needed a sharp 3 degree on race skis to hold an arc.

Will be interested to try these on the open multi-fall line groomers of Wildcat and the NH creeks. I'm convinced that they will perform very well in the open woods of Jay and N Vt.

anyone know what edge bevel the DPS skis come with? I'm thinking of putting a 2 degree on em. Guessing they come with a 1.

Little to no snow off of the main gut as winds had swept all the 5% moisture snow from earlier this week off of the bunny hill and cross-loaded the W aspects. After a quick call to my best friend Andrew McLean he advised us to proceed below the inversion layer and onto more controlled terrain. After self-belaying down a 30' spine of snowgun rime I found patrol bombing the cross-loaded aspects, as picture above. Once we'd done a few ski cuts and let the top 3/4" of loose snow flush out the steepest chute, we proceeded to drop in for several hours. Just another sick day in the suburban Mass. sidecountry!!
    I laughed, thanks.

Anyone know what is going on with the reported power outage at the Bush? Website says snowmaking is suspended until they get the shit figured out. Bad fucking news... they need every chance they can get right now.

for anyone in the J area tomorrow - skin track starts at 5:45 base of the Jet. hoping NWS forecast for several inches means more than 3, add in the 80mph winds = WROP

I'm betting that any new terrain they manage to open up will be at least a bit better as it's been colder when they've been blowing lately, so that snow should be a bit drier. Plus, just not having the hordes of jongs scraping the trails clean is certainly a help.

The crowds were surprisingly not too bad (maybe everyone quit after a few runs in the morning?), but there were definitely times when there were entirely too many fools out of control and scraping the trails clear of any snow they may have had. I think my old man wins with his comment on that one: "it's like a bad fart, you just gotta sit and wait it out," hahaha. Too true.

Would love to meet up to ski, but I've gotta work today and then my brother in boston needs picking up...

On another note bottledude, if it ever snows, boy oh boy do I have a line for you!! We'll have to check it out later this winter.
Thanks for the beta and the laugh. Watching the weather to see if there's a good day this week. Looking forward to sideslipping that line you mention

    2011-2012 : Season Edit

Realize the window for season edits is quickly closing (maybe even shut at this point) but i finally got around to finishing mine from last year and def wanted to share with you guys, as we all pray to Ullr for snow out east. Had a great season on the EC with tons of pow days and 2 great trips out west to Colorado and Utah. Think the final edit came out well but any additional feedback and commentary would be greatly appreciated (as i just started learning FCP X).

A few disclaimers before you watch -- Mostly all POV, no overhead blower pow, def a bunch of cliffs and drops but no 50 footers.

Thanks for taking a gander and be sure to switch over and watch it in 720HD.

TC, keep us updated on Smuggs area outlook (not that you wouldn't anyway). Mrs Weasel and I have Thursday off, no tinies. I MAY be able to convince her to head north if the snow is good enough...

CM, nicely done man. It doesn't seem like FCPX held you back any! I don't have any feedback, I just hope that it snows a lot this year and that we can ski together. Thanks for posting.

Also, the NH stoke was really cool yesterday, glad that you guys got after it and played it safe. I wasn't trying to bag on anyone, if it wasn't obvious. Except TC. I'd say he has permanent blue sky syndrome except it's always dumping by him. winky.

    Anyway, the pics were killer.

Saturday 12/17 Magic "opening" party report:

    $2 Narragansett pints = a sweet deal.

Skied Bromley on Sat. Pretty icy but not bad in some spots. Only 1 way down. Crowds not bad at all, no lift lines.

    Need snow please

many a night fielding a call from ML242 seeing how is he can move to Vt and ski freely finally. So he can stop trying to make us all believe that he had a fun time with his mid week two for one at Huntah winky..... oh the joys of waiting for snow to fall and getting bitchy

Not even sure what blue sky syndrome means. the city is never going to be close to good skiing no matter how much you post about it, move up, so you can stop the hate crimes

Anyone interested in some short WROD shredding tools? I have a pair of 175 Fischer RC4 RCs that have been sitting unattended to for too long. Very smooth, grippy carver. About perfect for right now. They have 13 DIN Fischer demo binders on REALLY tall plates (came on the ski from Fischer), and are in good shape. Posting here for WROD use and b/c they are heavy as hell, so would rather not ship.

It's not a hate crime, I'm just preseason training my monday morning quarterback routine for when the dangerous season really starts.

Anyway, snow skiing sucks and I'm moving on to this 24/7.

who wants to go to Utah?

Wasn't there a RadioRon downhill rollerblade segment in one of the old MHF productions?

I seem to recall him going face first into a bunch of bushes on a corner.

    Stowe update

BTW Lord/northslope are still get scraped to shit at stowe everyday. Perry held up alot better but the real fun was the easy street with the whales.

Hopefully side street and west slope from Sunny Spruce will open mid week and give people an option to avoid the Mansifield Crowd. i would much rather ski on spruce if its only groomers......

    Murda,

Nicely done man, good tune and not too long. Some cool POV perspectives too. As far as the window of opportunity being closed, I'll personally take all the stoke I can get right now. This no snow thing has gotten old.

Let's make some turns this year, if it ever snows.

Those are the yellow 18 M radius version right? Like a Nastar / "open slalom" ski? Those were fun as hell. Borderline race ski riding on rails feeling without the OMG i'm going to die speed of the 27M WC skis. I'm not interested, just piping in. If you've never been on a ski like this and all you ski are 100+mm underfoot pow boards / all mountain skis, you should get it. It will change how you look at groomers. Ok, enough Epic Ski garbage.

Is it just me or does it look like N VT / Jay is getting crushed by the Jay Cloud right now?
