From the first to the last lift-served day in the East, don't think I've ever gone that (not that it was a gold, it just happened that way).

My latest TR...after publishing stuff from 20 years ago this week, here is one from last week. Last SUNday...what a beautiful day.

    M.S.S. QC : SUNday May 6, 2012 – May Skiing Saviour
    http://madpatski.wordpress.com/2012/...kiing-saviour/
    Title says it all.

For the first time in at least 38 years, there was no Eastern US ski area open in May. Mont St-Sauveur in the lower Laurentians saved the honour of May lift-served skiing. There is still skiing 40 minutes away North of Montreal (or 2:15 from Ottawa).
MadPat's MadDash...stressed out about stuff. Music of what I was listening driving 417 to Montreal.

Gang from someone I knew in University. This was recorded in 1973.

Great Big Branch Sesh down Danby way...Gonna miss all the UVM kids, my mid-week krewe! Endless steep boulder gardens of fun. Around each bend you feel like you're paddling off the edge of the world. Big Branch...a magical place.
Noice! Been a few but seeing those pics makes it feel like it was yesterday. First ran that as far back as 99 I think. If you are ever on the WBD let me know. We are about 1/2 a mile from the put-in.

Met up with Tbatt and his crew for a fun GMT ride in Pittsfield. Up up up then down and up and down and up then out. Shared some Heddys then went to the General Store for some Sammies [thanks to Matt for buying my reuben] and beer to hang at the gazebo.

    Our Tbatt

    Switchback fun

C was a riot especially after 2 Heddys, a 24oz McScrumpys hard cider and a Black IPA.

    Top-O-The hill

Next time we can look for some "rolly polly" riding and cut some climbing out.

VTF/TBatt, are those trails good? I've been thinking about getting into some MTB this summer and that's not too far from me, although I guess neither is STAB, which everyone seems to raving about...

The last bunch of pages have been really fun to read about. It'd be a mess to try to give shout outs to everyone, but Otnavuskire awesome pic. Rudeness, sorry about the wheels. Tbatt and VT-F... wish I could have been there.

I feel great having given up the pressure of trying to ski anymore and it lead me to read some old EC roll calls with more kayak pictures from TC and the weasel from the flooding, Spazztwelve about the devil's path, Petrics and his photo stitch of KC at Willoughby. Arewolfe in the pemi with umby. Great stoke and beta for years, tt's going to be an awesome summer. And then an awesome Ullrfest. Maybe Flowing Alpy will show up since he won't see any leaves or grass this summer.

So, found a new swimming hole near west point (north) that is just amazing. Eagles, beavers, snakes...good clean remote water and the echoes of canon fire! Just by there is a clearing just large enough for a couple of tents. Then I found a few logging roads in the catskills took me a to a meadow that is unbelievable. Near 214, but without the people of the devils tombstone, the hassle of reserve america, and much farther off the road. Which brought me to attempt my first Devil's path... Fell a few miles short, but it was still awesome. There is nothing to get you in shape for 25 miles of loose boulders, 17k vert, and dirt on rocks. Didn't really care about bagging it, I took in the views but no pictures really. Had to shave some weight somewhere and you need a lot of water, usually. Plenty running now actually.

Black flies are starting to come out though, got a few bites on my face that make me look like the dry guy in the simpsons. It's cool, my id is valid.

One funny thing about the old threads was the constant bickering. This place has settled down. Are we losing our edge? I don't really mind, because I've been trying to climb lately... and if you think backcountry skiers are weird or protective of their spots try figuring out places to top rope within 30 minutes of NYC. If the climbing community could get organized to open up some places safely, I'd imagine there'd be lots for everyone.

I think I have to write Laser about some biking soon.......
.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

So I missed this recent weather window (Micayla's visit to Grandma, and then Mother's Day), and then Thursday I have a conflict.
But Friday/Saturday looks good for weather, so I might try to ski both Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. (For other avalanche course providers anywhere, feel free to use any of my "homework" assignments for your own courses too.)

heard sat was nice, but mank splattered about from the 3 inches that fell up high.

thurs may turn into a trifecta, ski/surf/sk8. waves should build to fun levels by afternoon with offshores.

Great paddling weather this weekend. Got out with treewelldweller and various others.

Lar's first river paddle, much more interactive, he was stoked.

Do you define 6 miles up a 1000k vert hill a good trail?
Not quite what I'm used to. Can't say I was a huge fan. Glad a checked them out, but probably wouldn't make a trip of going back.

The climb to Dhill fun is def. climb heavy. If You parked up high and rode the upper trails it would be more fun. I would ride it once in a while, but I like climbing. STAB is the shizz, even if some do not like the tight trees and narrow ribbon sidehills.

gotta work fri. prefer to ski the 1st sun and smooth after all of the grooming. wind won't really matter with temps near 70. gonna be praying for high winds so i don't get heat stroke. plus winds will keep the now, ferocious bugs from bugging.

yes, but top notch corn is soooooo underrated. we are very lucky with the quality we get as you know. corn has better staying power than pow and rides better longer even once it's tracked up a bit. takes absolute perfect untracked pow with no bottoming on the crusty old to rival our corn. so stoked there isn't a ski magazine titled, "CORN". and then there's the whole weather to go along with it thing. winter can't touch spring/summer ski weather.

Work on it get back to ya tomorrow.
i'll be waiting. gonna be an early-ish start to finish early-ish to make it back for evening surf.

this may still be some of the sweetest corn i've ever skied. closed resort freeheel'n on the xc skis. skied george all mornin then drank beer and put in 24 sets o tracks on this slope in the afternoon. no skinz, no booting. amen. unreal

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgQu-UqT3c8

edit: oh and by the fucking way, that corn was on a south facing slope at 3pm at an elevation of 1600ft. all day in the hot sun with zero skier compaction on 60mm skis and laceup ankle high boots. never manky, never sticky, never punchy. east coast perfect.
