Wait, I remember you!
You drove up alone, no friends who ski trees and you're just getting started skiing in the woods, so we took you on the locals' tour of easier glades (if you can call Canyonland "easier"
) to indoctrinate you. By the time we had to leave you for Woodcorps' "patroller duties," you were finding your groove in the trees and grinning ear to ear!
In fact, I think I suggested you start monitoring the TGR boards so you can hook up with like-minded skiers. Glad to see you not only lurked a bit, but got brave enough to post! Hopefully next season you'll hook up with some of the younger guys here and not only step up your game even more, but also find some ski buddies who venture beyond the beginner/intermediate terrain. Send me a PM when you come up at Jay next season.

Yup, you got it! That week was the highlight of my season, and getting to meet you and Woodcorps was some of the most fun I've had on skis. With the big March warmup, I only made it up to Jay once more, last weekend. I'll definitely drop you a line when I'm up there again next season.

June, August, whatever -- okay, so it wasn't quite *that* good of a season!
I know, sometimes when I've been doing laps on the NE Snowfield by myself, I start getting more upset each run at whoever keeps cutting that skin track more into the snow, until I remember that . . . .
So anyway, looks like the next two days will be very nice. I'll be skiing a little bit Sunday afternoon at Killington, then probably starting up the Cog around 7 Monday morning. For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. Based on Monday's conditions, and the weather since then, I expect a few short portages between around the bottom of the middle section and the top of the lower headwall.
Will definitely be lots of good skiing left, but I don't know if it will be worth trying for longer laps from the base of the upper headwall all the way to the base of the lower headwall, or if just lapping the lower headwall will make the most sense. For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. Up the cog today to the snow fields. No one around on the hike up and only 1 other guy in the fields. We were surprised by how much snow was left, start right off the auto rd almost to the garden. Incredible corn and lots of options with no tracks. Walked over to airplane and Turkey chute. Nothing goes unfortunately. There were pretty lengthy melted out chokes. No one had been in they're yet either. We hiked the jewell out.
Rudeness- glad you got some dude, no wind and amazing day to be up thereLast edited by thin cover; 05-05-2012 at 07:33 PM.

Most glorious day in the Ravine today. Here are a few shots.
Things looked a bit gloomy and I was quite skeptical on the weather given that the parting lot was pretty empty when I showed up at 9.30

Tuckerman Ravine trail was practically skinnable

The weather cleared up to perfect bluebird by late morning. I wanted to do a run on HH, but upon some inspection and consultation with the rangers, decided against it

Here is the new target

Anything right of Chute is prob not worth while

I could not believe that with this great weather hardly anyone showed up

The snow in Left Gully was amazing - no glop, mushiness, stickiness or other later season unpleasantries; no undermining; no crevasses; no problematic bare spots or rocks. The rain had smoothed things out nicely, so no bumps

This view just doesn't get old

Go get some tomorrow and Mon

Yeah I have some pics. A heroic rockslide on your skis might connect airplane. We went over to ski it, then saw the carnage.tons of snow left before the choke though same with TC. We were fine with it, we had such a good time in the Easties in pretty ideal conditions

GREAT STOKE Y'ALL!
tc, nice to hear of good cover in the high fields. more than i thought. chute and left still look good.
jonathan, guess we'll see you in the ravine then. upper half o dodges looks nice, narrow, and spicy. love it when it skis like that. maybe a walk over from left as an exit.

Good to hear had a good time. Wish I could have joined but had home chores to finish. Today no go either for same reason. Owning an old home is not so much fun sometimes! 1888 is that considered old? The list never ends. Tomorrow am possible still working on it. From the look of those pics things are going fast. Bummer to hear about GG. Sure wished I had jumped in that Sat when I was right there . . . Oooh well, always next year!

whattup with all the cloud cover over george today? twas supposed to be bluebird. there is no doubt that yesterday wuz the day. hopefully tomorrow will be the full sun.
cloudy cool down here on the seacoast. groundswell showed up this am and surfed a coupla spots as the wind got on it. bad spring for wind thus far. 1st session at the wall provided enuff size to be somewhat entertaining. looks to be some decent surf for the next 10 days or so. stoked on that. putting the winter rubber away and pulling on the 4/3 was a welcome change.
so who's in for tomorrow? jonathan, dave, fred, ripper and friend, tc? lynchy? looking forward to throwing some corn around!
