There's one week left to vote in the East Coast Super Shoot. Here's my video from the February powder weekend. Listen to it as your music for the page!
Vote here, help me beat all the crappy park videos that I'm up against:

nice work on GG guys! looks like MIL was in. Thats a spicey and peppery descent on SW.
Looks like it was a great weekend every where to be out skiing.
Some shots from my road.
Glow on Thunder Basin

Winter looms over spring. Looks like spring might get the decision win this week, high and warm winds do some classy work.

Sweet rudeness!
Stephan from ski chic chocs told us to not even come when we called a week before we left, He said he would hate for this to be our first trip there. But we were determined and went anyway, as soon as that stormed rolled in, his demeanor and attitude took a complete 180 and he was stoked to be out with us scoring great pow turns. We went with the expectation of mainly hiking and most likely not skiing much, of course we were more than surprised. Tempering expectations has been an integral ingredient this whole season, no reason to stop now, you might just get gifted some amazing days when you least expect it.
Stoked to see your report! have fun dude! tough not to up there. The scenery alone is worth it. I need to get a load of pics of to ML for the TR, thanks for reminding me.

It wasn't sadly. Well, maybe, possibly you could piece a run through there, but it won't be much fun. Also, I bet there is a lot of shit lurking under the new snow.
If it looked at least okay I would have definitely given it a go, seeing that it is one of favorite runs on Washington, and it perfect for hot spring days when mostly everything else is too manky since it sees so little sun.

low expectations has suited me well also, but in our case it is for crowd and lift patronage. the more snow there is the less i want gapers to show up.
low expectations make for increased reward to dissed ratio

Was it a dream? WTF did all the snow go?
Can't take credit for this post/idea but found it incredible that two days ago did the same thing as the last poster except we came from th GG. Snow? Gone. TC this will answer your question about the hike in/out. Yikes. Mother nature is nuts. Gotta stay on your toes in NE. Enjoy it while it lasts (or hope for more like I am - alot more!
). Pics are worth the link - esp if you were up there the last few days.

MiL in? That seems impossible -- on March 21 the only snow in there was a thin occasional ribbon (just enough so that although we were ascending very close to the GG hiking trail, we saw a grand total of two blazes during the entire ascent). Even if it filled in enough recently to look skiable, probably just the white-painted-rocks scene.
Oh well though, moot point anyway, since the new snow is melting so quickly everywhere.
Saturday, Stratton was ~1450' vert laps. Today, still very solid cover in some sections, although bumpy in places (and surprisingly firm, even with temps in the 80s):

I was able to get in continuous laps of ~840' vert each (well, including a couple side steps followed by a grass glide of a few meters), then finally at the end skied ~300' vert of narrow snow sections connected by short grass glides, and finally a short walk on the cat track to my car. Probably will be broken up into much smaller sections in a couple days (or maybe even by this evening.
At the base, I saw a couple glancing up at the trails.
"You must be really surprised to see me skiing here," I shouted.
Oh no, the man explained, they were there to watch their son, making some nice turns on the remains of the nearby mogul run.

Turns out the father works with the brother of Doug Coombs -- kind of eerie to be reminded of that tragedy (even I was skinning only Stratton). For those stuck in the Northeast, follow my NE Rando Race Series and check out my avalanche course. (For other avalanche course providers anywhere, feel free to use any of my "homework" assignments for your own courses too.)

Rudeness- how long ago did you book the mines cabin? Over a year wait list now. Are you getting sledded in? Or skinning and having them take your gear to the cabin? Not sure if you have been out there but it's more a two story single family home then a BC ski cabin. I would imagine the cooking facilities are pretty comprehensive. We shoulda gone in and checked it out its really nice looking. But an 11 hour touring day had us slumped on the snow mobile train devoid of any further energy.
Wish I could go back this weekend. Mines is the most inspiring terrain I have seen on the EC. I met a couple from the mounts groulx area doing the chic choc traverse. They are down for showing us around if anyone wants to rally a trip.
LD- thats about what I was expecting. Has me wondering if our objective is even worth it now. Indeed congratulations to all those that got one last taste of winter up there before it melted.
Notch opened today.... Come on otto

I hope so but may not? You don't know til ya go. Supposed to be cold again Tuesday night but going to very windy next few days so hopefully that will help. Fingers crossed.
I am certainly all for the otto assit tho! Nothing like getting up there with fresh legs and maximizing the down! I second the call!
Wish the Chic Chocs were in the cards this year but alas not. Next year for sure!
Hey Drew where is my TR? Rob/Brian? Hahaha. Jonesin for pics. So are the kids. Awesome weekend. More winter please. The Passion is in the Risk

Woke up feeling a bit sad that it was going to be near 90 today..
Here's some stoke from last weekend that makes me feel a little better
.

PJet in the mashed potatoes, shoulda hit it 15 minutes earlier! Photo- Chris Tower of Green Mountain Ripper Films

GMR dropping - Photo Chris Tower

Rode the powsurfer (not the no-fish) down gondolier on Saturday in deep slop and it ruled. Totally changed my life. Sunday at Smuggs it only rode well on upper rumrunner but still was a blast, struggled and took some nice tumbling falls on the hardpack. Going to make it a point to ride this thing whenever I can, feels like learning all over again. Hopefully I'll be powsurfing at MRG in a few years.
(Not trying to start a MRG bitch session here at all) I'm pretty sure this is a mainly skier thread, and honestly I don't want to create any bad vibes. IMO there is plenty of good snow in VT for everyone if you know where to look and your willing to work for it and that's pretty much all I really care about :good snow:. Lift tickets optional.
Thanks for the stoke everyone keep it coming!
Check out the redbull supernatural comp if your into it and can spare and hour 1:24:55:

TC: we rented it about a year ago exactly.
not sure how we'll get in there, it will depend if there is snow left on the road.. after today, i'm not sure. they're supposed to tell us tomorrow if they can do the baggage transport & skin. otherwise we drive in.. or there is the third scenario that we didn't tell the girls about (road too slushy to drive or sled..)

Ho-lee fuck that is terrifying. I can honestly say that there is no way I would ever ski that. Pretty much "you fall, you're done," am I wrong?
Edit: I just realized where this is. I remember staring at those lines from Madison and Adams last August thinking "that is steep as fuck, I bet people ski that."Last edited by arewolfe; 04-16-2012 at 10:49 PM.
