Mont Ste-Anne looked awesome from what I saw online. The scheduled closing date is April 29, it was repeat this week (they normally have a fixed calendar), not sure if its realistic or not. I was skiing locally last weekend and I would have never thought that it would have been gone on one week. Well, mostly...not enough to open the hill, but managed one run while my daughter's ski team was having its end-of-the-year BBQ. No fun race this year.

39.9` low cloud cover and windy b-o-b. Woke up to rain at 4 or so and went back to sleep. SBN closing today, South tbd though down to Steins and the VH double now.
Seemed like Stowe had some good coverage as I drove past on 100, still looked like some snow in the woods in places. Werd I herd at the Pig was GP was spotted on the neon long boards "training for Alaska". Looks like Quebec will be the king of spring.
A couple of WROD photos from yesterday, parking lot 70% full and growing at 11:30.

Damn things are looking pretty low. I guess my injury was season ending cause now I can ski, there is nothing to ski on. Thinking of heading up for some turns, make a lil tribute to saucer boy, not sure where to go though.

I always try to make it out there at least once a Spring. Are you skiing with a bunch of hot girls? That could be the determining factor. LOL
Oh yeah, I forgot...I can't, I'm married.
I have some continuing stuff to deal with in Montreal in the coming weeks (generally on weekends), so I was thinking using it to bounce to Ste-Anne and the Loaf. Hoping that the two years of 'sucking life stuff' ends for next season.
King of Spring in Quebec? I don't believe much in title, when I was a student in Montreal I would rather drive 3 hours for Superstar than ski St-Sauveur in May.
The only serious liftserved area in the Spring time in Quebec is Ste-Anne, however the North side isn't the best. And they generally closed on the last weekend of April or 1st weekend of May - fixed date closing.
Ah yes, MTL_Ripper and the Rudeness...the Gaspe looks like it might be hit, unfortunately much of their base has melted from what I heard.Ski Mad World

Bobby and Rog,
I saw this awesome skiers going laps which I believe was a Alpental Ski Patrol for years. I had seem him a couple of times in that last week of June/early July at Mammoth in 2010. We tagged up on the day my daughter didn't ski and pretty much skied the whole day together. I was floored when I found out that he was 64. I thought the guy was 55 year-old max. Bobby do you know this guy? Blond hair, goatee...awesome skier. I liked to tag up with him someday.Ski Mad World

So our long suffering northeast nightmare continues.
TomCrac,
How was upper hellgate / cliff / heuga's looking? I was going to go hike this week. Maybe I can throw the bike in the trunk and make it a two sport mission. Laser, ScottSki... any interest?.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

Smellgate, mid station, Ike and belt all had good snow. Upper half of Cliff looked good but it runs out at the turn...I would recomend spring gear for sure. As I said earlier, this is the fastest melt off I can remember. Would love to get out there for a few more but I am in NYC this week. If you like road riding, look into Hunter Mtn. Spring Classic and the Tour of the Catskills .... good times.

I sold my roadie a few years ago. No mountain bike, either. Just a beat to hell single speed that no one will try to steal that gets used around town although I've ridden it out to montauk and the like. Gonna look up those rides anyway and maybe I'll do them myself.... just slowly. And with camping gear.
Anyone know anything about fly fishing in the Catskills? I heard that this season is going to go off real soon around Roscoe. I've never done it, but I could see myself getting into it to combine two of my favorite activities: looking for swimming holes and eating cheap. Is it possible to get set up for under $100?.....I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record

The Catskills is pretty much where American fly fishing started. I personally have never fished there but my old man has spent lots of time on those rivers. There are some great streams out there from my understanding...
As far as gear goes, you might be able to get set up for $100...might. but let me warn you, once you start, there's no stopping. And like skiing, some of the gear is quite pricey. Oh and you'll loose lots of flies for the firstfew years. Shit, I'm still loosing lots, which is why I'm going to start tying my own here in a few days...

you really should look at the Ross FS rod-reel combo. Very affordable at around $140 for the set, comes with a rod tube. casts decently. The reel is a bit on the cheap side but Ross has a great customer service dept and replaced my reel no questions asked. I eventually upgraded my reel to an Orvis model with a better drag.
A sure sign of spring, Toms courting hens in my backyard under the apple tree.

A, I have a vice and some material I'd sell you...

I did a bunch of fishing up there during a brief stint at Delhi. There are some great spots. ESP around roscoe only thing is it gets crowded on the weekends. There is plenty of good spots up there. My rig is a st. Croix 5 wt I think it's 8 ft.

The only thing worse than a young pessimist, is an old optimist. (But don't give up on it!)
Vinman, speaking of optimism, I'm starting to run dry. I've e-mailed, messaged and FB'd the TGR powers that be, to no avail.... they must have picked a winner for the AK trip, and just don't care to promote it at the moment. Oh well, it's always fun to dream. (But damn... they were some good odds for getting some good goods!!!)Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!

sleeper of a day at kmart today.
it rained my whole ride up but the clearest sky i'd seen all day was over skye peak, kid you not.
it had apparently rained before i arrived. i brought the sun to MRG last thursday only fitting i stop the rain.
the snow on superstar was excellent all day...the corn fluffing up before the sun arrived for good around 3:50.
did i mention that there was not a raindrop felt all weekend at the hill (be me at least)?
i know i forgot to mention that the place was a ghost town. there were often no more than 5-10 people on superstar at a time. and i scored a $20 ticket (yesterday i got a freebee). with cold coming on it looks like supe could still be good next weekend.
with jay blowing snow though i'm not that worried

The east looks sad. I get back tomorrow. East Oregon was lots of fun. Working on the TR, but Wallowa Alpine Huts was great. Here are a few pics.
The weather could have been better. We only had one good weather day out of 5. It was still a blast.
Run 1 day 2 - The Horn
Ryan skiing the N side of the same peak

Looking at the second run of day 2
