I for one don't care. I hate snow and this discussion is boring. Lets talk sensible weather. I mean really, WHO CARES how cold it gets on MTW. Nobody lives there but some weirdos and a few cats. Personally I just wanna know whether to pack my umbrella so I don't get wet on the walk to my car from my suburban front door and then again on my 130 step walk from the parking lot b to my corporte cube.
However, I think we can illustrate the differences between 8/18/07 and 9/4/11 with some maps.
You see here the upper analysis shows a sharp digging upper level trough moving right over MTW. With very cold upper air in place, upward mortion created by the vorticity along the leading edge of the trough, the upweard motion caused by the MTW and cooling from ascent snow - albeit a little was def. possible.
NOW...look at 9/4/11
Notice the differences? There is no sharp trough over the NE. Instead a mild trough is dug into the Great lakes. Winds to the east are from the SW. This is a PERFECT set up for thunderstorms and subsequent hail.
Now seriously can somebody tell me how much a Hunter or Snow Mountain pass costs?

Holy shit dude I just about peed my pants laughing.
Huge congrats to Matt, D and Lil' B. AK is going to be a whole new world (and B's skiing future just went from "star" to "olympian" ) and I wish you guys nothing but the best! I feel very fortunate to have had them in my life and to consider them my friends. Magic will miss them, and all their hard work and sacrifice over the years will not be forgotten or taken for granted. I'm gonna miss you guys, but I hope it's everything you're hoping for and more out there!"If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise." -Robert Fritz

well we went for a schuss today
but on concrete pow, not the frozen stuff. didn't seem worth the effort to truck over to MTW when the air around Stowe was crisp, the roads were dead, and the shred needed to happen

Thank you everyone for your well wishes.
Matt and I are psyched at the opportunity, and I am so proud of him.
I will let Matt chime in himself with details if he chooses to do so. Long story short, Matt saw the Eaglecrest GM posting on SAM info back in April and for shits and giggles said why not apply. We weren’t actively looking to move (he only applied for this one job), but the thought of living out west for a while at some point had been tossed around. I don't think we ever thought it would really go anywhere. Anyway, after long over the phone interview process and a crazy 3 day interview process in AK he found out about a week later that he was the runner up for the job. This was back in late July. So, we settled in for another great winter at Magic, my parents just moved to VT in early August, we enrolled Bridger in The Little School 2 days a week. On Saturday morning (one week ago), Matt got a call that the other guy had backed out and was he still interested. Our house has been crazy for the last 5 days trying to figure out WTF do we do??? After many beers, an amazing Phish show (where they played an unreal Alaska) and hours of discussion we decided let's do it. We are young, it’s an amazing opportunity career wise for Matt, and for crying out loud it is ALASKA, why the hell not? I think it’s one of those times we absolutely both felt we would regret the decision not to give it a try.
So, it’s crazy. We are blown away with emotion right now. Sad as we know how far we will be away from our friends and family. But at the same time so excited for something new and unknown. We are going to miss Magic, and our Magic family so much. We are so grateful for all of the support & love over the years from the Magic faithful and SO thankful for all of the amazing friends made and relationships formed along the way. Magic is a very special place. You know it the very first time you ski there. It has been the best place to ski and to call our home mountain; we are SO PROUD to be Magic skiers and a part of the fabric that makes it so unique. We will be Magic skiers forever.
New England, Vermont in particular is in our blood. I know we will be back and I look forward to it. I am actually going to be spending the winter here in Vermont while Matt makes the journey to Alaska by early November. Bridger's going to finish school and I am going to ski at Magic.
A video of Eaglecrest, AK I found online. Not too bad. Our doors will always be open. Come ski.
YES!!! Huge score. Found Sample too!
Diamondback doesn’t really visit TGR much these days.
As for who might be taking over, I am sure they will be interviewing some qualified individuals. I heard there have been a few inquiries already, both with ski industry experience. Magic isn’t exactly a cake walk as far as running/operating the place. The person they will hire is going to have to want to bust their balls inside and out and be ready for many oh shit moments (and then solve the problem).

Phish show raises more than $1.2M for Vt. recovery
ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) -- Phish's benefit concert raised more than $1.2 million for the Vermont victims of flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.
The Burlington-bred jam band, which formed in the early 1980s, offered to play the benefit after the Aug. 28 storm wrecked hundreds of roads, bridges and homes across Vermont and temporarily cut off entire towns.
The sold-out concert before about 12,000 fans on Wednesday at the Champlain Valley Exposition fairgrounds in Essex Junction was the band's first Vermont show since 2004.
Phish said on its website that all the proceeds from benefit concert will be directed to The WaterWheel Foundation and the Vermont Community Foundation to help in the state's flood recovery.
