PNW SFB'S TGR MAGGOT POV STOKE CONTEST/MOVIE PLANNING THREAD
I'm stoked to meet some mags so I'll do the honors!
...not sure if there's a camera coming up this way but we'll make it happen regardless.

Like I said in the ski/snowboard thread, I'm excited to meet some mags and get some awesome footage. I'm sure we can make it happen regardless of whether we get an "official" camera or not.

So, my idea for this...
What if we line up some dates at the PNW resorts where the camera will be and any mag can show up, meet up, get in on some footage, and I can put together a parking lot BBQ for one or some of those days if its at Alpy, Stevens, or Mission, (maybe one of the others if I have amble notice) and maybe after we meet up we can plan some tours or something, but we should try to hit up most, if not all of the PNW resorts, and best tours/ski mountaineering. It would be fun to edit ours all up to show off all the PNW has to offer.
In between the resort meet up days the camera can go out with individuals/small groups who may be doing more stokeworthy tours and such... People climbing/skiing Baker, etc should definitely get priority on the cam, IMO.
Also, are we just PNW, as in the Washington Cascades or are we also Oregon, Southern BC, and Eastern Washington, Idaho Panhandle????
And, when is the contest going to end? One of the great things about the PNW is our spring to early summer touring... we should get some of that.

Yeah parking lot brats and keg stands is sort of what I had in mind. I am down to at least getting one meet up on the books and then just posting on here who has the camera and its whereabouts. If the camera switched hands at least once a week all season according to where its already been then we should be able to cover a lot of ground by a lot of mags. I'm not too big on scheduling because the conditions can be so hit or miss but whatevs.
As a far as touring days go, I think resort days are simply a mechanism for anyone to meet up and at least say hi, but also to hand the camera off. BC days can be organized between mags and whoever has the camera. I agree though, a good mix. I think that will happen naturally.
I would gladly assume W/B into the PNW haha, as long as its whereabouts is known then I think the camera can go wherever, within a days driving distance and as long as it doesn't end up sitting idle in someones gear bag for over a week. Unless there are objections to that...

Not too big on scheduling either, for the same reasons that regct mentions. But it shouldn't take too much to get a decent BBQ together if you know that it's coming and buy some stuff in advance. A few days notice...? I no longer have pickup, or I'd offer to bring a barbie and do the brats/burgers myself.
I think we need some sort of compromise. Maybe do the first scheduled meet up, see how many mags show up, and how fun it is, and decide whether we should continue to schedule them or just post who has the camera.
My only concern with regct's suggestion is that it might boil down to select mags in the PWN getting the camera for a week, filming a bunch of awesome footy with their friends, and then passing it off to the next interested mag. There's no maggot interaction - it's just a bunch of guys skiing with their friends and passing the camera off. But maybe that's just me..."Alpine rock and steep, deep powder are what I seek, and I will always find solace there." - Bean Bowers

Just planning one day is good.. maybe the first Saturday or Sunday (I work during the week, unfortunately, so if I'm bringing food, its gotta be a weekend) that conditions look good enough to get out for the first time?
I was thinking that having the cam make it to a resort for a meet up/trade off once a month or so would give more opportunity for meeting, interacting, etc, but it could be just a post here the night before thing, too.
The other thing is that there are probably a fair amount of people (like me) where it would be a waste of camera time to take it because you guys probably do way more stokeworthy stuff than I do... I just ski down, nothing fancy, but resort days where it could be traded a lot, people like me could try it, and not take away from the better stuff.
Do you know how much we could get away with in the parking lot??? Could we actually have a keg? I am thinking a start of the ski season party.. ski most the day, eat food and drink beer and then goof off night skiing?
I will bring food, you bring the keg
I am kind of strange, where unless conditions are really bad, I usually go up every weekend, regardless.

Yep. All that ^.
More importantly, I'm down for a beginning of the season tailgater. Hell yes. Most parking lots are tailgate friendly.
This season I'll be living in Enumclaw and skiing at Crystal but Stevens is the shiz too and am not opposed to driving elsewhere. Sooooo yeah. Come on Winter!
Now if you'll excuse me, it's 80 degrees outside and the ice in my rum is almost gone...Last edited by regct; 09-07-2011 at 11:09 PM. Reason: wait what?

Baker usually opens a week or two before anywhere else, and its the most northwest in the states...might not be a bad place to start the tour south

Baker would be hard for me because I would have to take a day off work, or more if its not the weekend, and find a place to stay...
I could do it, probably, especially if we set the day somewhat in advance (that might be hard), and it would be fun, though.
I guess I could call in sick, LOL. I have never done that before at this job, but my boss lives just down the steet and would notice my car gone.

Dudes -- I'm a transplant from Bridger Bowl spending my first season in the PNW. I'm stoked on the stokefest plan, and I'd sure love to meet some people to ski with. Count me in with the festivities! I like to ski fast and drink beer and laugh a lot.

Are there any other PNW girls kicking around this place, or do any of you have wifes/girlfirends that ski??? (decently... not cruise a couple blues, and then sit in the bar, but actually ski??)

Sooo it looks like my lady and I will both be working at Crystal this year, we are going to move down that way after our wedding next month.
I was up there yesterday hanging around and the stoke is real high for a strong start to the season. I'd fricking love to do some early season touring around baker.
Hell yes. So pumped I feel claustrophobic in my own skin. Had to put my skis on in the living room the other day whilst checking forward pressure on my binders...you know, technical stuff. Safety first.

So, since it sounds like the 5 member teams deal is how this is going to work... I want to put together an all girl team.
Impossible? Maybe. I don't know any girls at all that I can tolerate skiing with.
Are there some quiet PNW girls kicking around here? Wive's? Girlfriends? That girl from that night you got really drunk?? Help me find girls!

Figured I should chime in here as well.
@regct, thanks for taking the initiative and helping get this going along with SFB. I'm stoked to be a part of it, even if it's just meeting some of you in the lot or lodge for beers. I'm also down for doing some touring if you make it up here anytime, along with any other Baker/WA mags.
@mtngirl I'd love to see an all girl team but remember, this is TGR. Would wives and girlfriends who aren't members still be allowed to participate? If not, I'm sure some mags would be willing to put you on their team. Also, if you or any others need a place to stay, me and ms. eolian would be down for putting a few of ya up for Baker's opening day.

My girl likes to go skiing. Pretty strong skier, a little shy, not girlie-balls-huckin-30-footers stylie but has dropped into corbets and can ski most anything at BB. And has a touring rig. So count her in, too, mtngirl!
We're probably going to get passes to Crystal for our first season out here but will certainly be down to tour a lot and ski at all the other resorts too. So fucking stoked. Can't wait to meet some folks of a similar state of mind! (we live in military-ville Bremerton, for this year at least... too many old sailor types here)
^^ Haven't yet toured around the living room, but getting close. Love that shit.Last edited by Norseman; 09-15-2011 at 10:34 PM.

Crystal is sounding like the place to be this season!
Norse, I am no girlie balls hucker, either. I can ski the whole mountain most places, but sometimes I have to slow down a little bit, and I don't like just bombing through things where I can't see what is below..
I don't really huck anything, ever, at least not on purpose.

Mtngirl- a chick team is a good idea.
The snow level dropped significantly today and it snowed in the cascades. I feel in "state of zen", the "calm before the storm" if you will, "in the zone" as it were. Stoked, but not claustrophobic stoked like what happened last week when I came to in my living room with my skis on...in the middle of the day...my dog hiding behind the couch. wtf.
Nope, today I feel good and reassured about all things skiing, winter, earth, and life. It's real now, no more wasting time on TGR and getting all fricking tweeked out on that french guys' las lenas powder pRon. Going to roll with the punches for now and see what the weather does. Get my mind and body in the right place. Keep chillin in slow-mo. Word.
.....then when it snows, make a sick edit and KICK EVERYONE IN THE WORLDS' ASS.

A keg in the Baker parking lot won't go over well with the management or the Whatcom Co. Sheriff's Dept. who cruise the lots on occasion. Camping overnight is ok though so maybe a low key presence would work and a BBQ party sounds good. Due to my surgery Sept 1 (reattaching a quad tendon)I won't be skiing until spring (arggghhh) but a good party up there would be fun.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!
