I'm with you on that BG, but it looks like this thing is going to drop off dramatically south of Tahoe. While Truckee to Quincy is projecting 3 to 5 inches on the crest thru Wednesday, Mono County is projecting 'maybe up to an 1 inch north of Tioga Pass'. Snow levels don't seem too bad as they may be above 7,000' at times, but not above 8,000'. And these storms all appear to have that nice cold finish - like frosting on a cake.
So, do you mean angst as in you're seeing Red? 5 day precip forecast:

last night BA was saying it looks to be coming in colder then what was originally forecast but still snow levels starting about 7k. i dont really get what the fuck u r bitching about brooks cause this is the exact type of storm we need. i am sure u have seen lots of our lines are not in yet and some spackle to start out this system is exactly what we need. so a foot or 3 of sticky stucco and then few feet of blower on top. sounds just about what the doctor ordered. i agree the east side season isnt shaping up so great but whatcha gonna do. bitch about it on the internet???? heheheheh gimme a shout when u do head south for a mission cuz gas prices are demanding full carloads unless money is no object. shred on!!!

I skied Squaw Friday, and did 3 palisades hikes. The lines are intense up there right now.
This could be a SICK palisades year, if we get the right snow, but on top of low snowpack.
Figure most years in the spring we get the right snow after everything is filled......will be fun if sades are steeper, bigger airs, etc.Donjoy to the World!

OMG my first post! So scared. Anyway, I know this is the Tahoe thread but does anyone get down to the Central Sierra often? My home resort is the gnarly China Peak(formerly Sierra Summit). I'd put up some pictures from a couple backcountry trips this year but can't do that until I have more posts apparently. The forecast down here this week is not nearly as exciting as the one for Tahoe

^^^Tim? How was the move?
Man, China Peak this year must be rough. Only been out there once before, in spring, and the difference in snow pack could be best measured in meters.
And don't be scared. The bark is worse than the bite around here.
Okay, now off to find some powder*

Ya, Cohee got lucky last year for his big move. This year, ehh, not so much. That last storm that dumped feet in Tahoe dropped inches here. due to school, I've had one pow day at the resort.
A few weeks ago, the trees on Bear Butte, just up the highway from the China Peak, skied quite nicely. Haven't been up since

who's bitching? I'm just warning others not to get too down when they will be thinking the rain is washing everything away. I looooove warm, wet storms. I was actually bitching about the last one being too cold :P
But to play devil's advocate we are getting to that time of year where we need snow in the big mountains more than here. Worrying about the temps so we can build a base in mid March is sorta silly. The pow just isn't gonna stick around anyway near Tahoe with spring coming. Our mountains just aren't big enough. If I had my choice I'd prefer the storm completely miss Tahoe and hit Bridgeport south. I'm actually pre planning a trip to the PNW for spring skiing knowing the eastside is gonna be pretty much a wash.
Regardless, my fitness level is at an all time low so I'm more than happy to just shred resort pow for a couple weeks and hopefully get in a big line or two later this year. I'm already looking ahead to next season. I've been sick a ton this winter and am gonna go to a specialist this spring and get blood work done to figure out why I'm feeling so old so I can come back next season a shredding/skinning machine (I'll be the big 4 - 0).
And yes, saving gas $$$ is actually a good thing. I'm at a point I can't afford all those 2x a week solo drives down to the eastside and back in my Tacoma (which sucks on gas). gimpy, I'm still sure a plateau trip or two will be in the works so yeah let's carpool!

I've been sick a ton this season, too.
Several observations (these are from non-medical professionals, mind you) have been that it's due to:
the drastic temperature shifts all season
the drastic humidity shifts all season
the drastic pressure shifts all season
since we haven't had a "proper" winter, there's much more pollen and stuff floating around
i was in the ER last Friday and the doctor attending me said that he's seen more cases of bronchial infection this season than any other in recent memory.
i hardly got sick at all last season, so there might be something to the above suggestions

i know it sounds pretty minimalist but i drink 1 pouch of emergen-c each morning and i am hardly ever sick and my diet sucks. and in my opinion, the older folks are the fitter folks. i am 41 and am faster then most all of my younger friends on the uptrack and the cat i am usually chasing is 50+. hope you feel better brother.
now lets get down for some march madness motherfuckers!!!!!

dooks I'm pretty sure he meant he hasn't been skinning a ton since there is no snow in the big lines eastside and Tahoe has been dry and/or sketchy on the big stuff.
But, I will say that I saw way more pollen in the snow last week out by Angora than I expected to, due to the unseasonal heat and dryness, and that my allergies have sucked in general this spring but not been debilitating.
More relevant to this thread - if touring BC, use your allergy meds, and use a spring wax because that pollen is sticky-ickity!_______________________________________________

Makes sense about the weird weather. I got a couple colds the last couple winters but this winter I've had 3 colds and the flu (with strep) and felt like I was fighting a few others off at times. I'm just getting over the lastest one. I juice, eat organic, and all that hippy shit too.
One of my usual partners is 41 and he's the fastest splitboarder I've skinned with. He made it up Tallac last week from the houses to the peak in 1:45 on an icy, fucked up skin track (I was 25 minutes behind him and didn't feel like I was going slow). He said his best time was 1:35 from the houses to peak too (3200 vert). And if that cat gimpy is usually chasing is same dude I know I've witnessed his fitness in person. Dude can fly up mountains. I've been talking to a buddy of mine up in Seattle who told me about a MD up there who deals with sports performance. Her name is Dr Cooper I think. She's the one I'm gonna try to see. Apparently she's worked on Ed Viesteurs and Lance Armstrong so I'm sure she knows her shit! I guess a big problem with middle aged men dealing with fitness and health issues lies in your testosterone and cortisol levels. I'm also gonna look into food allergies to make sure I'm not slowly killing myself with anything I usually eat.

Ended up with walking pneumonia this year. It took 10 days of respiratory issues and finally super bloody mucus for Kaiser to see me, the advisory nurse told me they've been so swamped with minor sinus infections and allergy complaints that they're just overwhelmed. You guys aren't alone.

Hmm... do I eat enough bacon to classify it as "usually"?
My fitness level is also low, which I'm blaming on the snowpack. Being down in the bay during the week it's tough to get out after work to exercise in the dark. Usually the prospect of skiing on the weekend is enough motivation. On the plus side, daylight savings, woo-hoo. Actually get to run in daylight for once!

i was guessing it'd be $500 for the heavywood pass next year, but only raising it $40 for what i paid for a heavy pass this year is pretty cool. since i have kids i'll be getting one of those 420 babies.

Why would the snow pack be at issue? If anything, you are better off hiking than using lifts. Today had plenty of powder, just after a few short hikes. When things are better, you can ski right off a lift and get good snow.
Although, I think the snow was a bit better yesterday. Or at least different.

^^^^^^ ding ding ding. i have yet to even have a good inbounds resort day cept w/ the kids. not that i've even tried but i am 99.9999999% sure i have had more fun hiking for it then if i had opted to lift ride. just my preference, not dissing anyone here. i am hoping that stat will change in the next 2 weeks. i am in good hiking shape but not great skiing shape as a result. someone needs to show you kirkwood burnouts how to puff tuff.

Hey, I'm in that movie enjoying the sun and the show! Bummer (at least for the kids who were in striking distance of the podium - yes, one of mine was, dammit!) that the finals got cancelled. Some muthahfuckin' good skiing going on out there. Congrats to all the winners. Good show.

totally not Tahoe, I know. But at least it looks like it got a little bit of snow on Saturday night.
Check out the fat 'schrund on Bolam that looks like the most massive crown line you've ever seen!

I live in the southern portion of the Sacramento forecast area, and our forecast is improving as we speak. Snow levels look lower now than they did this morning. Rain became snow. Snow levels rise as you move south through Yosemite to Mammoth. Looks like we start cold, warm up a bit for a couple of days, then get cold again.
