roundtop could be holding in the very top but it def got the shit skied out of it on sunday when i think most everything got skied. dont know anyone who has been in halls this year but like bg's pic shows from tallac, it goes. i think looking for spring snow is the best bet though the window is short apparently w/ not so great overnight freezes.

Hit AM today @ 9:45 and it was already glopping up. I found decent snow on the side of Gunner's Knob facing back toward Kangaroo, though, and pretty much just lapped that for a bit.

On my one excursion higher up the mountain I skied Palisades (soft and thick) and then crossed over toward High Yellow Gully where I ran into a Patroller coming down High Yellow Face. He said it wasn't even worth the hike as it was already gloppy up top. I traversed further over to snake some shady areas and skied lower Our Father/High Yellow Gully, where, despite the shade, there were some serious snow wheels laying around and even a meteor trench from some kick-off and the snow was like quicksand soft serve ice cream.

I went back to Gunner's Knob and knocked out a few more runs there, which, while short, at least had consistent snow quality.

I called it quits at 11.

Plan to hit it at opening and ski until roughly 10/10:30 tomorrow.

Not sure if anyone has seen this article yet. It's different than the one which ran yesterday about the Colorado invasion of Tahoe.

    http://www.marketplace.org/topics/bu...-cut-landowner

Basically, Troy has been offered around $45 million for White Wolf, only to turn it down in his hopes to create his own resort. From paying less than $500K 20 years ago to ~ $45 mil. Wow, nice one!

If you want to listen, it starts around 18:00.

Dookey, the best skiing on the hill the last couple days has been on Scott. Hit the groomers of Bobby's Run and Scott Ridge. They were still holding up well after lunch yesterday. Anything off-piste is just leg-breaking mashed potato glue.

That sucks (re: White Wolf). I guess I understand that it's his baby and he doesn't want to give up control, but it's not like he's getting low-balled by KSL.

The normal routine at this time of the year is Sherwood 9-12 and Scott 12-4. If you quit at 11 you would not have seen that.

Interesting hearing about all the glop up there. I skied Tahquitz Peak at about 11:30 yesterday and found perfect corn on the NE aspect. The N aspects needed another hour or so to heat up. And it was about 95F in the valley yesterday. I guess SoCal just corns up better...

$45m sounds absurd to me considering Kirkwood just sold for $18m. I have a hard time believing that KSL would offer close to that amount and Troy would turn down that much money.

He may just be BSing, but I wouldn't be surprised by it, especially since that number may not represent a pure cash offer (although I imagine KSL wants him out of the way once they have the land). I don't think the Kirkwood sale price is all that relevant a point of comparison, since any way you look at it KW went at a fire sale price.

I believe it has to do with buildable real estate versus forest service lease

it prolly just had more time to corn up. w went from deep pow to no freeze before it consolidated, although i think today was better at the wood than yesterday. most of the time we climbed on rocks though. it was fun.

KSL bid $250m today for Wolf Resorts. A chain of Water Parks traded on Nasdaq.

Aha. The plan is clear. Once global warming eliminates the snow altogether KSL turns Squaw and Alpine into giant water parks.

Squaw was pretty fun til 11 when I left today. Skied Main Chute C2 Slot Oly lady. Anything steep and north facing is good but was getting really soft by 1030. Seems like there's about a 1 hour window where off piste is really good. Groomers are all pretty good depending on time and aspect. Money hour is 10-11 overall. Sticky is the word.

Is there much buildable land in white wolf that isn't in an avalanche zone (ie--no financing available)?

one of our maggots made it into the AP today! They were interviewed via email/iPhone, while driving, in a 6 hour traffic jam due to the carjacking manhunt on I80 today. I'll let them chime in if they want, hahahaha.

    AM was mas bueno today.
Got on the hill shortly after 9.
Did a warm-up on Meadows with my pops, who is pushing 80. It was corduroy firma.
Then bopped over to Gunner's Knob and hit 4 of the chutes (ones facing Scott chair). They were borderline thick slush and I kicked up some snow wheels.
I then hit Hot Wheels (looking for pops) and railed it GS stylee as it was softening up.
Around 10:30ish I saw pop's skis at the lodge and figured I'd call it a day, but ran into some friends and we went and hit Gunner's Knob, Pete's Peril's Trees, Palisades, Lower Yellow Gully. Everything was pretty soft with LYG being really gluey.
From there we hit up Scott Chair and lapped Chute That Seldom Slides Trees half a dozen times before connecting with Vets for a finale run down Gentian and a close-out time of 2 pm.
I was surprised how well the snow held up in spots (CTSST, PPT, and Gentian, specifically).
Headed to Squaw on the morrow for Earth Day.

Got to squaw at 12:30 due to this...and yes that's me quoted midway through the article....

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...7D75.DTL&tsp=1

I had a blast. Just stayed on KT until 4:15pm. Stuff got really sticky at 3 but was still really smooth. With fat skis and rocker and no moguls on the alternates.....it was a blast.

But yeah, it was like 70F up there.
