yes, weekends are ALWAYS epic!!! That'll give them time to get the groomers back to 100%. They were a little soft today.

You or the Dad know anything about that?

I'm also unsure of what qualifies for them putting the "green light" up or not, and how often people listen. For instance, yesterday promise land was opened (it was probably fine, lower 40 was likely a bit sketch, but maybe patrol checked that), but I doubt there were signs other than "boundary line" along the way out there. I'm sure some people hit up the side country in that area, when we were leaving I even saw a lone snowboarder along AM Rd where people usually hike out from munchkins (and yes I know access to munchkins is from a different spot). Further, as discussed throughout the avalanche talk this year, warnings signs don't really do much. I know plenty of people who have ducked ropes, ignored warnings and headed out into Alpine's side country, and a very small, virtually none, of them even own avi gear much less have training.

I admire Alpine's policies, I don't think they should have to police their boundaries and it is almost apart of the culture that is AM. I also have the utmost respect for patrol. They've got a lot to cover, most of which they can't just ride a lift to, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're under staffed. I just don't have much faith in people's decision making ability around the mountain. No worries though, I give maggots the benefit of the doubt they pay attention to a little more than the average Alpine skier/rider.
Alpine's boundaries are never closed, with the exception of the White Wolf property. And patrol does bomb ob to Grouse Rock, so all the fags traversing (ski cutting) out there are safe. The only way they can "close" a boundary is by closing High T or closing both Scott and Lakeview. But if you can access it through open terrain, it's a go, even if you are stupid enough to drop in GC Wilderness (but they will probably call in SAR instead of sending AM patrolers in there). As for Munchkins, it's just a matter of time before a catastrophe happens in there, as 90% of people don't carry gear in there and there tends to be large groups traveling back there. But hey, I'm all for personal accountability and hope that policy never changes, though I've always wondered about AM advertising backcountry that dumps out into people's back yards, luckily almost none of them are there in winter and those that are seem cool about it.

Now let's all hope everything slides midway through the storm tomorrow and resets with some nicely bonded fresh.

Ouch PowDork! Heal fast Mang! Good luck with your gimpy-skiing plan.
(When I had a wrist cast, Cinders would only let me come skiing if I didn't go faster than her...that actually worked for a little while...)

BayAreaSkiBus is sending a bus up to Kirkwood tomorrow, Weds.
Cinders & me and JoyM are riding it up, and hoping that it makes it.

Wondering if the conditions (road, wind) will lead to us getting diverted to a different resort...

So, it's sounding like I should leave my new Lhasa's at home for just a tiny bit longer, and go with the trusty BRO's, yeah??
(which, surprisingly, have only had one "serious" core-shot so far this year...touch wood...)

Oh! Now would be a good time to wear any body-armor/pads, if you have any, I guess...??

You replied about the two vouchers I have for KW in gear swap. I decided not to sell them and, instead, give them to someone in need. If there is a way I can get them to you, they are yours.

My only request is that you use them, and that you buy a stranger a beer or two, preferably a female, a mag, or a female mag, while at KW.

Doesn't look like I'm gonna bring all my touring gear, maybe the skins for a dawn patrol. Does anyone want to show a few east coasters around? I'm thinking of hitting homewood sun, take advantage of the 25$ tix. Was gonna hit alpine and squaw, prob head to KW one day.

They already got 2/3 of that.
I've heard predictions of 5-6' on the crest for the week totals. Tamarack Peak area (Rose) was bottomless yesterday BEFORE last night/today's storm.

    From the KW website.

Expected snow totals from this storm is 25-35" bit we easily receive more than that. It is likely that our weekly total is going to be in the 60" range....that is 5 ft of snow!!! Starting feel alot like last season. The real kicker is that the weekend is supposed to be sunny skies. Make you plans now.
A lot like last season, except by now we had a 10 foot base, instead of 2. But if the rest of the season is the same, then we will be happy folks over the next few months.

Does not look terribly windy from the web cam. It howled down here through the night, but got mellower once the sun came up. Rain is steady.

If it's windy and there's a good chance the upper mountain at Squaw will close, that's a no-brainer for me. I'd rather ski powder than wait in the KT line all day.
