don't recall to be honest. I wasn't following the weather nearly as closely last season as there was really no need to except in January through mid feb. I'll take your word for it though.....really hoping for it. At least we know something is finally changing. Now off to play some disk golf.........again

The models are all over the place, the Euro, GFS, and Canadian are all showing different things happening. Now that is hopeful in the minor fact that they all aren't showing the same old bullshit what we have had for the last 7 weeks. Now that is a minor hope, nothing to get fired up over, yet. God, let it snow, I'm fucking dying here.

I figured last season Jan-mid Feb was the only time I did not need to follow the snow forecast closely. The other times of the year it was all about timing the drive and ski days to best get powder. I really needed to stay on top of it with only 1-4, but quite flexible ski days a week. The surf forecast, otho, was very important last Jan.

I said this over in the surf forum. The swell and surf conditions have been excellent since Thanksgiving. So they were last Jan-mid Feb. And then we got an entire winter's of snow over the next several months. But then again, we had already had a half winter's snow earlier in the season, giving us mid winter conditions. I got back into snow sports just over a decade ago, and in that time have never seen such a dry landscape in January. This season is interesting at the very least. And feels all the more devastating after a season like last. Still, even if this year is an all time low, KW still has another 200" coming, which is a very good year where I grew up skiing.

I am headed to Hawaii the last week of this month.
May try and get some turns on top of the Volcano, cant be any worse than here.
It will be blower by then because I will be gone.
I will take one for the team if that what it takes to at least get some Feb/Mar pow days.
The only good thing about the dry weather is the great tasting room traffic lately.

The monotony of Mt Rose and Squaw is like the Chinese water torture .

I should ask on Epic but how's Heavenly lately? I know it's just groomers but where better to park and ride now: CA or NV side?

BV was fun today. Owen and I were 2 of the 40-50 folks today. Moke West and Grouse Connection are all they've got, but it's better than nothing.

    Unhappy KW *Lockered* us out

Skied NoStar on Fri & KW on Sat.

    NS was fun.
Yeah, that Backside run by the new lift, and Martis were the most..er...thrilling. Unfortunately Loggers Loop (pipe) was closed for Racing. Burnout was closed, they were blowing snow there.

KW was cold, and practically empty.
The surface ski's very well. Zachary was better than it often is in the regular season (that afternoon "ice").
There were like Gale Force winds once you got off 6, and turned to the slope. Blasting you with ice & grit. Crazy! They closed it early (3 ish??)

What really pissed us off is there are no Day-lockers in Red Cliffs Lodge anymore...and no lockers anywhere it turns out???

Just a Basket Check in the Village Rentals!
Like, that isn't going to be a shit-show on a busy day at around 4...?

I guess they just want pass holders & condo owners skiing there. No day trippers.

We also got hassled by some grey mustached liftie-douche, on 5, for having our lift-tix attached to our hydro-packs. (No one even checked them on 6 & 11).

Prolly hitting up KW again this Fri. Not sure where we'll be on Sat

Arrive early at Stagecoach (or you'll get bumped to Boulder).

fwiw, you can ski from nv to ca, but not from ca to nv. they are working hard on it. recently they were using sky chair to upload man-made snow for skyline trail.

I can definitely see how the surf/swell correlates to what's coming for us. I don't surf so I don't know the first thing about the correlations, but I'll take your word for it. Hoping that what happened last year will again happen this la nina around. We're spoiled with the consistency here, but we have to pay our dues here and there too I guess.
