Kwood was rough this morning..........about 6" on rocks in Sentinel Bowl. Had high hopes, but it brought a new meaning to "survival skiing". Low angle stuff wasn't too bad, but you still had to worry about obstacles. Best part of the day was the last 100 feet of vert skiing to the car......lookers right of chair 6.

Did some laps at Bear Valley Resort today, twelve miles south of Kirkwood as the crow flies. Early Oct storm was 12-20" when I got there, altho the BV site had reported nine inches. Today looked like 8" reported, but was hoping it would be more. Was actually 9-12" of very good snow. The combination of fast snow, thin snowpack, and poor judgement resulted in at least one core shot and a face plant. It skied really smoothly and quick, tempting one to go fast. Was great til you'd hit a rock and go down. Beautiful day, though, got some really nice turns in between rock hits.

Hey All!
Did anybody happen to talk to Vets today? He apparently skipped off to do some hike-to-ski this morning, but neglected to notify anybody where he was headed and hasn't checked in as of yet. If you have any beta on where he might have been headed or you happened to share some turns with him today, it would be appreciated if you'd let me know ASAP.
Danke!"Man, we killin' elephants in the back yard..."

Vets has been found!
Seems that his celly died and as such he was prevented from checking in all day. Then, thanks to the proliferation of cell phones, it took him some time to locate a pay phone so he could check in. He'll no doubt post to update us all on his November 6th turns soon..."Man, we killin' elephants in the back yard..."

Thanks for your concern. I'm fine. Today/tonight was an adventure. Late start at Carson Pass, low temps, light fluffy pow. Skied out under moonlight and headlamps. Scraped lots of rocks too. But it was a memorable pow day and I'm now up to 97 consecutive months skiing.

97? That's it? Page me when you reach 100.

Also glad to see this was a false alarm. I logged on after Dookey's 2nd post. If it had been early, it would be concerning. This is always a scary time of the year with so many snow snakes out there. Be careful all you crazy folks. I'm sticking to the surf just a bit longer.

Yeah I just want to chime in to second that things can be scary this time of year, especially next storm cycle.
If it stays cold in Tahoe be careful of the thin snowpack rotting out. A cohesive slab on top of that can rip easily with a skier trigger. Early season can be pretty damn dangerous in Tahoe ... Ottime and Zepp Skier can attest based on what they saw out at the Sisters a couple years ago this time of year._______________________________________________

Any mags voly or work with disabled sports far west at Alpine? Looks like I'll be helping out a bit this season. Stoked!

snapt, that's cool. There are a few mags that work and and/or frequent Alpine. Not sure if any work at DSUSA. It is an awesome organization and some of us do periodic fundraising for them.
Holy shit, you need to stop posting for a while. Just noticed your post count is at 666!
If Stev or any other maggots want to borrow a SPOT that is active through the end of this year, they're welcome to it. I don't plan to renew the service though. Unless they offer to replace my device with one of the new ones that connects to an iPhone.**

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

Hey Dookey, I looked for you at AM Sunday. Where were you?

mugs, Squaw will provide you housing if you ask. They have a few apartments, plus the old hostel that they own over by the SVL in the parking lot. Not sure what's available, but it is perfect for kids like you. I know a few employees who live there and they have a blast. Not a ton of privacy all the time, and it isn't fancy - but you can't beat the commute.

I assuming you are up skinning at Alpine. What is the snow cover like? Have things been consolidating at all?
Watching this next system, it looks like we will be drenched pretty well Friday night, but not much for the Sierra. Bummer. I prefer sunny and toasty if we aren't gonna get snow.
