Well, I personally like them all (Powdiction, NOAA, Tahoe Weather Discussion, MammothWeather, etc..). You can never have too many info sources.
As to Powdiction, they are slower because (I) they are not posting up updates of nothingness everyday and (II) they are out getting after it. For instance, the alpine climbing this winter has been unreal with unreal access you can never get due to all the snow. Lemons to lemonaid.

BA has called so many storms the last few years way before anyone. I tell people hey there's a 10 foot dump coming and they look at me crazy. It was a lot more fun about 2 or 3 seasons ago when he first started because no one read it and I had the inside scoop to myself. Now Heavenly, Sierra, N*, Squaw, and everyone and their mom reads the blog. The secret is out. :P

On a totally crappy note, Marmot Mountain Works in Berkeley is closing down:
http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-fo...rkeley-Closing
This blows as I have always received top notch service from Seth, Paul, Tim and the guys there. The last real mountaineering/AT/Tele store in the greater Bay area. Between them and Mammoth Mountaineering (and the Backcountry and Alpenglow), it has been the bulk of my in-store purchases. Marmot was great for bootfitting and gear work from Seth, and just being able to grab things quick (e.g., they carried Trango Superfly biners which are impossible to otherwise find some times).
I am definitely guilty grabbing stuff online for cheaper, gear swaps, etc.. - it is impossible not to. But also tough to see the local guys close up.

Just heard word that that God has issued a statement apologizing...Apparently there was a clerical error and the word "Tahoe" was misspelled as "Tebow" on a work order, and attention and resources were directed incorrectly. He promises to start fixing things this weekend and should all be back to normal next week.

Add this to the list: http://www.tahoeloco.com/weather-geek clean, simple, accurate. Best of all, no attitude.

Marmot was one of those lucky places that was for fun, not profit. Run by some wealthy folks that kept it going as an institution rather than a business. Guess that changed. Sometimes running a place with no real concern for the bottom line can make you unprepared to deal with exposure to harsh market realities. Real bummer. Shudder to think about all the bad service I've received at REI and Sports Basement that, while respectable businesses, do not offer the same level of service, expertise and selection of specialty gear that the local shop does.
I would hope everyone remembers the local shop doesn't live off goodwill alone. I made a point of buying a BCA pack at full price from The Backcountry in Truckee as part of my holiday shopping to keep them around. They sure give a lot of good beta, shows, super friendly. Thanks mike. Something a little steep would have been nice, but whatever. Just being in the Mountains, on a nice day will do.
Hey Main-man. How are you? Any word on what is fucking with your body, yet?
Ok. Saw the thread in Tech-talk from that Oakland guy, and worried it might be Montclair Sports shutting.
This will suck big time for you Mountain Man types. Not so bad for us Resort sissies.
Only been in there once, with Sinecure. Everything seemed kind-of expensive (yeah, isn't it always, though?)

Yes, 10 feet in Oregon is a bummer when Tahoe is poised to get 8. However, I'm quite content with a steady stream of Copy-Paste (
hardly) NOAA Porn. After watching how winter has been in Tahoe and knowing that my winter starting in 3 weeks, I'm just looking for something that'll keep from stepping off the ledge. BA has kept me quite sane, safe, and satisfied. At least in ways that the ladies just can't do.
C'mon Snow!

Just did a week in Telluride. Low tide in Colorado but better than Tahoe so I made the most out of it...groomers, backcountry, and heli to GNAR.
Yellow mountain into Ophir through Fatwah Couloir....
Some variable, some pow...
Heli ride to Gnar couloir at Silverton
First group down for the year. Can't believe they let me ski this...haha

Car washed and deck furniture still out...I really wanted to move it all off the deck and under the house again today. But felt that with things being what they are best to leave it for a few more days. Come on Ullr!

My personally favorite thing about BA is he will explain why he is forecasting certain events to happen and what is the cause of those events. Also love it when I tell the wife it is going to be puking snow on a certain day a week before it happens, and I get the look.

I am feeling hopeful for the first time in what 8 weeks? It looks like we have a train full of spackle coming so hopefully the forecast and reality match up. I'm gonna burn an old pair of shitty Salomon skis to keep the stoke

BA is on it. I have learned a lot and love all the links to the models he has. I don't just use him for ski weather (though still my favorite for ski weather) he has saved my ass the last 2 vintages getting all the Pinot Noir in before the rain. He is able to give me a few more days advance notice than the weather any of the other vineyards out here use. I am able to get on the picking schedule ahead of anyone else to assure another great vintage.
I hoping for a low enough snow level to make Thursday enjoyable.Drink to remember not to forget!

On a skiing is fun note, KW was FTW today. Perfect groomer weather. Seems like pretty soon all this super fast man made stuff is gonna get ruined by powder and its brethren. Go out and get some while it is still the goods.
