I think this last weekend represented the point at which the mountain biking becomes better than the skiing. I'm putting a fork in this underwhelming Tahoe ski season and moving on to a kick-ass bike season.

^^^^^ I made that "point" quite a long while ago. Biking has been great, and the lack of snow is going to make this Eastside climbing season unreal, actually. Very excited.

    Agreed.

(sorry about that not-recognizing-you-without-ski-goggles on the trail...)

She'd gone in to pick up some tuned ski's, and *as usual* she was left standing around while the guy(s) dicked around.
So she called the shop# on her mobile.
The guy answers "hello, can I help you?". "Yeah, can you serve me please?" "...er, excuse me?"
The guy was non-plussed, until she told him she was standing in front of him!
If I was that guy, I would at least have been embarrased. Not so, he just got her, her ski's.

I hate it when you are ready to buy something and the clerk answers the phone and starts a chat. So annoying.

Honestly, there's still some decent skiing to be had.
Heck, I hit up AM today and didn't even get on the hill until 11:30 and interestingly enough the snow is getting better and better each day, at least in terms of consistency. I skied straight through until 2:30 and found some nice almost-but-not-quite-corn all over the mountain. Hike Lower Saddle and found some soft-serve goodness on High Yellow.
Hit up Gentian, and admittedly it was a bit thin and there was some bushwhacking to be done, but the line down to Subway was sweet and smooth.
Geared up to hike Rose Chutes on Wed.
Then back to AM/Squaw for Thurs/Fri/Sat.
Also, while not super serious on the BC tip, Poop Chute and the ridge rolling up to Mt. Lincoln still looks pretty decent.

hit squalpine today and it was very good actually. alpine was a bit sticky on the non northern non groomed stuff from the start at 9:30. scott chair held up well untill 1:30 when we left for squaw. squaw was nice til the closing bell. palisades (not chimney through schmidiots, which is burned out) looked nice and smooth since it hasn't been opened for a while. could be excellent with just a little fresh.

Sounds good. If they open Sonora Pass next week as rumored I'll head up for another dusk patrol.

Seems odd to be talking about patch skiing already, when a 1 1/2 weeks ago, coverage was pretty decent and face shots were plentiful

Exclamation Last Gasp? BayAreaSkiBus to Kirkwood on Saturday & to Alpine on Sunday?

The BayAreaSkiBus is trying to get enough butts on seats to send a day-trip bus from the Bay Area up to Kirkwood on Saturday 28th. And one to Alpine Meadows on Sunday 29th.

$95 will get you the bus ride there & back, a lift ticket, and breakfast on the bus. All included.
There is usually a wine/beer Apres Party as well, schwag sometimes, and Movies for the journey home.
(You sleep on the way up, in the morning).

It won't happen unless enough peeps sign up. So come on and check it out:
