One of my favorite quotes- and I need to post it in the favorite quotes thread:
"I have taken more from alcohol than it has taken from me"

Just got done having a couple pops with an old friend. He has 4 year old twins. He said the 3 beers he had in the 2 hours hanging with me and my bro was the most alcohol he has had in the last 5 years. May god have mercy on his soul.
I think you have me confused with someone who is far less awesome.

That sounds about right. The kids are both asleep now... and I'm on my... umm... another drink. So yeah. A buddy of mine just had his first, was telling me how he's extra motivated to straighten his shit out, get in better shape and stop drinking so much, blah blah blah. I laughed. He didn't seem to appreciate it.
Not that having kids is a bad thing, but well, you know.

Just don't drink every day. Mix in some days off. Trust me on this.

Consider me your guinea pig. The whole dying-and-seizures thing wasn't too cool. There was more to it than drinking, but 25 years of drinking every day didn't help. On the other hand I'm fine now, so whatever.

Gave it up just shy of five years ago; had one wild night in 2008 and I was hung for two days. The sip of bourbon I had at my buddy's wedding last weekend burned like holy water.
I don't miss it much; but it does take a little more motivation to get from saturday-night shenanigans to full-on jellydicking, I'm gonna go to jail-type tomfoolery. But that has just as much to do with attitude as alcohol.
I do miss having a ridiculously cold beer after work on a hot day, though. Can't beat that with a bag of cats.

My last drink was April 2010. At first it was, "I'm just gonna take a break from drinking until I do something with my life."
Alcohol induced withdrawal seizure certainly helped motivate me to stay dry. Then again, I am a true alchy no doubt. The idea of one cold beer is so foreign to me. I have never just had one beer in my life. One leads to two leads to 10 leads to....you get the picture.
I had some problems along the way (puffing more herb than anyone ever should) and getting myself in some pretty serious legal trouble.
Anyway, I feel physically and mentally better than I have in 10 years. I am truly happy now. I wake up early in the AM feeling like a billion dollars. I have the best GF ever right now and the future is bright.
Anyway, even if you aren't a drunk like me, I am sure you brains and livers would greatly appreciate the break every now and again.

I just took a two week unintentional break, because of a broken ankle. Just didn't feel like drinking. Had a beer last night, and damn what a great one beer buzz that was. Will be drinking more today.
