    24 Hours in the Sage

This weekend was the annual Rage in the Sage race down in Gunnison, Hartmann Rocks. The KOA there throws down the food non-stop for the racers, course is fun and man are there some crushingly fast people in the world. Throughout the night and into the morning people would come up and blow by laying down sub hour laps.

I had some good lap times and some not as good, flatted just after sunrise, thought I was hallucinating middle of the night (typical), didn't crash, didn't embarrass myself.

For bikes I rode my MCR for most, couple of night laps on my FUEL EX. Thought the sus and slacker ride would be best when I was 1/3 alert. Lots of carbon big wheel hardtail bikes, more Pugley bikes than years past, lots of holy shit fast singlespeed guys. Buddy of mine rode 10 13 mile laps solo ss (he's done Hundo, Breck and Ldvl ss). Was interesting to see how the Pugs floated through the sandy stuff, their tire tracks on top of and squishing the skinny tire guys. Have never ridden on, would think climbing would blow on them.

Great event though, one of my faves.

A few years back, a buddy did that (solo) on an old school women's townie. That was entertaining to watch. He won the townie class.

I caught one of the townie guys out in the back. Upper ring "flowy" carve tastic downhill, pedal/haul ass/brake/pedal. He's on a fricken old school three speed just screaming down. I passed him and then thought do I really want to be ahead of that? Made me go faster. LG from Vail area set course record for a townie at 1:09. That is fast period, much less on that crazy ass old shit.

Jeebus yeah, 1:09 would be fast on a townie, faster than most of my solo laps a few years back.

The team camped next to us the dude put in a 1:02 at 10am.

I think the first lap guy came in right at :50 something, first lap with the LeMans start bs and all of that getting people out of your way after you find your bike shit. My partner came in first lap in top 20. I see him coming and think oh holy shit I am going to be passed by some fast motherfuckers. The KOA team put in 24 fricken laps, 24 laps in 24hrs for four people, that level of intensity, organization and drive is tarded.
