01-31-2012, 06:34 PM #1976Lower mainland drivers simply can't drive. They can't help it, they suck. Calgary drivers on the other hand are simply a bunch of selfish cunts...true story, no offense unless of course you're one in which case full offense LMAO.Alberta has achieved the title of Canada's worst drivers (which baffles me as the lower mainland is bad).
Anyways, a certain area to remain unnamed for now was skiing like titties. Thanks for the lap, was fun! The cornice session was good times lol.

Yea man, good, deep times! The cornice cutting was pretty funny... Silly Kiwi.
I got cut-off by a snowboarder on Wiley on out way down from our lap and tomahawked hard on the groomer. Blew both gloves off, knocked the wind out of myself and took a beating on my lower back/side. Going to have some nice bruises in the morning.Local Golden, BC area rep for Bluehouse Skis. Shoot me a PM if you'd like to try a pair when you're in the area!

I live in Calgary and the drivers here scare the hell outta me. I think a big part of the problem is that a large percentage of people learned to drive in the country and aren't used to other people on the road. At least when I was in Toronto and a guy cut me off, he knew i was there and was just being a prick. Here, I'm pretty sure no even looks before turning/merging.
Ok, back to skiing: I'll be at kh on fri punting it up and side slipping down fuez

Try this one, it's working for me.
Try this: http://www.kickinghorseresort.com/KH...-March2009.pdf
Ah I see it's been posted above, never mind.
Some thoughts about this grand scheme that KHMR has:
As for getting a lift into the bowl North of Feuz, there's a bit of a dispute between Purcell Heli Ski and the resort. That closure in Feuz is there because Rudi Gertsch didn't want people to poach his terrain (i.e. Rudis). I'm not talking about the Nozone closure but rather further down the bowl which would legally require you to skin up from G7 to access Rudi's. It's been a while since a bird has landed over there but the closure is still there and they say they use those slopes on poor flying days. They haven't for years.
As for Canyon Creek, currently there is a vertical of about 600m, depending on where you go on the slope. They could thin some trees to take the slope right to the valley floor (right now it's tight and a pain to get across to the other side, makes for a long day). Unfortunately, reliable, quality Canyon Creek skiing is coming to an end this season soon as the sun will begin to bake the slope. Although there are some gullies off the W side of Ozone that will remain good skiing.
As per request, I'll stop cunting up this thread with my complaining lol. I'll save it for the Mother Fuckin' Riv.Last edited by goldenshowers; 02-01-2012 at 06:49 AM. Reason: link already posted

I can't be bothered reading the master plan right now, but why don't RCR just add a mid station to the gondola to extend the season if they want. Somewhere not far below the top bowls maybe? Unfortunately its probably too expensive esp considering they wouldn't get any marketing hype about new terrain.

Mid station would mean that the alpine will get hammered quickly as there are so many people that dislike skiing the lower mountain (not sure why?). They straight-line it down after some alpine turns, huck it off the Kinbasket Roller and down to the gondy. There are good turns to be had lower mountain but I think most would prefer to spend time in the alpine. Replacing the Pioneer and connecting it to the bottom of Chairway would help alleviate stress on the gondy.

fair point. I thought a new Pioneer up to Stairway was on the cards already, rumored to be done last summer (?).

The original plans for KH did have a midstation on the gondola, to allow early season skiing and extend the ski season into May. (I probably have the original plan somewhere as a PDF.) But the developer cut costs by leaving it out when things were finally built.
Also, remember the first season when they had about half the number of gondola cars on the rope that they have now? Now those were some awful lineups on a powder Saturday.
Looks like we are headed for an early Feb. dry spell. Snowing in Kimberley right now, but not much after today in the forecast. Might actually have to do some work for a change."Good girls go to heaven. Bad ones go to hell. And girls on fast bikes go anywhere they want." Elena

anyone care for a pair of brand new (unmounted) High Society freerides in 187 (3640grams, 136/104/126)? no major rocker on them but would make a good tourer if you're into that thing.
http://www.freeride.co.uk/gear/skis/...ociety/fr.html
i put the kijiji price at 375 but will do a deal for a fellow mag.
i'm still skiing the old 2008 ones that are so buttery damp that i feel no reason to switch to the new ones and it'd be a shame if they didn't see any action this winter.

Found the story I wrote that mentions the original KH plans. It was from October 1997. Check out the other stuff that was happening back then.

From that same publication, here are some lift ticket prices for the 1997/98 season, including tax:
Fernie $36
Red $39
Whitetooth $28
Castle $29
Fortress $32
Louise $46
Sunshine $46
Marmot $39
Wintergreen $15"Good girls go to heaven. Bad ones go to hell. And girls on fast bikes go anywhere they want." Elena

or the Dogtooth Dash Feb 11-12. $50 for 2 days of racing, INCLUDES lift tickets, heard rumours of a $15 Mexican buffet. They could use some volunteers too (free lift tickets for vollies)

There's been a "problem" with the KH back country the past 2 days. Can see the line fine from the top...

....but once you drop in visibility disapears
(cam is several inches above head)

Once down you go up this side

to do the down again on this side

back up this side...

to do the other side (no pics) and repeat until days end.
But watch out for these..(fairly recent slide)

Took a drive in to Emerald Lake on the way home. Emerald path is totally schralped...there were less tracks on some of the slopes in the resort fer frick sakes. Some recent natural activity around there as well as on Paget Peak area.

wow, the "death sucks" thread sure is intense. our southern brethren sure don't take chest-thumping and armchair quarterbacking lightly...
it's like amateur hour down there, and there they were making fun of our local rockies folk for digging too many pits last year

T2C, thanks for bringing the stoke back to the thread. It's been sorely lacking.
I spent 4 days at Asulkan hut last week/weekend. Didn't take a single good ski photo. But this one of the outhouse at Wheeler (stopped for a snack there on the way out) should give you an idea of the conditions...
