Dalbello Virus - which is the stiffest model?
I am trying to figure out if the Virus Tour or the Free is stiffer? I am finding contradicting info when googling it. Some say the Free is the stiffest and some the Tour. I need to special order these in my area because AT boots and not big around my area.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

it's the Tour. how about you post or review or something when you get them?

Tour is stiffest - mostly because of the intuition liner. Very little stiffness difference though. The main reason to get the Tour is because of the dynafit/tech inserts.

What the others say.... I have the Tour and love them , however beware that when they first came out, the upper strap was too long for many people with skinny cankles and I and a few other people I know had to contact Dabello to get shorter upper straps as the boot did not allow enough adjustment to get them tight enough. It was no problem and they sent them straight away. They may have fixed this in newer models but if you have narrow cankles.... you might want to check especially if you are buying them from afar.

The Free is the stiffest boot, geared for the skier who is hiking to ski down, vs. the Tour which is more in between looking for a little more comfort on the climb.
Both boots will have intuition this year, as last years Free did not come stock with an intuition lace up

Very true. I love mine, but a lot of people find the heel pocket way too big. For me that wasn't the case and they are plenty stiff enough, so I was happy. Very similar to a full tilt/flexon feel. Only complaint for me is I wish they had more forward lean (if anyone knows of a DIY solution, let me know).

^^An X-shaped foam pad around the heel fixed my fit issues. I too, would prefer more forward learn.
They tour great though. Very comfortable on the up and down.

A footbed and L pads made the heel on my Lites fine. I will get the Tour or Freeride this year because I want a stiffer boot for the ride down.

Dalbello are currently finalizing the new flex patterns for the tongues of the VIRUS boots, once the new ones have gone into production yo will be able to purchase seperate tongues, so you have which ever flex on whatever of the boots you want. off the shelf Lite is the softest and i think tour and free are mid flex.

Yup, it appears that the FREE is stiffer, but sans tech(dyna) inserts. This video gives a decent overview. Though I have a tough time listening to someone who ovbiously keeps away from hiking/touring when speaking about AT equipment. I wonder how much difference in flex there is between the Free and Tour, as they are both polyurathane based shells.
