The BC model. 190 sounds like a big back country ski to me, anyone skiing ~ 190 (what ever make/model) lift served and the Praxis BC in a 180 in backcountry?
    If so:
Are they OK at speed - obviously they do not act like 193 ehp, xxl, mo ship - but are they OK
Are you generally overpowering them when you are not picking your way down a steep chute/face but just ripping some fun turns?

    Gracias

Hey alto: Why come you changed the greatest powder ski shape of all time?

SIDECUT???? Seriously? Let's not forget the lessons of the spatula. I don't think you give yourself enough credit for just how badass that OG protest is (was). You done nailed it.

speaking of last year's Protest, I just picked up a pair of 188s so Kidwoos comments make me excited. The line seems forward at 101cm from the tip. I looked at some old posts but didn't see a consensus. Thinking of mounting 1-2 back? I'm 6' 180 (an old guy who likes XXLs if that matters). Thoughts anyone?

I mounted mine at 100cm. I could live with 101 or maybe even 102. I definitely wouldn't go 99 or less.

You'll be stoked. It's the best powder ski (that also handles hardpack) that I've ever been on. 99.9% of the surf of the powder model but you can relax on your shins on the groomer back to the lift.

Why they changed it...........I have no idea.

So yeah if anyone's sitting on a pair of these in good shape, I'll buy them for hoarding purposes.

180 BC is good. That is what I decided on, and I don't regret it. I ski 195 Pow Boards in bounds, but the 190 is a lot of ski for BC, and the 180 holds up well, even at speed and in rough conditions.

I ski the 180 BC. Love it for uphilling and tight spots but most of the time, wish I had the 190. They definitely ski short with rocker.

Funny, just read Davieboot's post after I replied. Guess that's what makes a market!

I went 1 cm back on my 188 ProTests last year and in the heavy deep I wished I had gone 2 cm back. I really liked the ski, and am going to try the new ProTests for 2012 to see if they really did improve on perfection............

190 BC for touring right here.

180 would be a joke--or very silly fun-- for me at 6'2" and 189 lbs.

I finally made up my small feeble sepia mind and ordered 180 BC's. 172cm tall, 75-80kg with pack. Normally ski 182 Atomic Atlas so I'll get by with the 180 BC IMO.

Now want 177 Protests. Wish they were just a little bit lighter. But still want badly.

    Hohes, you'll love them.
Just spent 4 days scrambling about the ridges at Craigieburn, NZ, with my 190s (me 186 x 77 bday suit). Very light, but burly in variable spring conditions. 190 a bit long when trying to down-climb into reefy couloirs (tried a-frame and diagonal, but always hooked on some cliff), but perfect length once skiing. With your slightly smaller frame 180 should be sweet. Enjoy, young man!

Thanks for the good responses oclv and kidwoo, that helps a lot. I meant that I am using some dynastar XXLs as my other ski and will use the protests for deeper days. Sounds like they will be fun!

You will love the ProTests. Great ski. I really liked my 2010 version and can't wait to try the new ones. I mentioned somewhere here that I wasn't (personally) a fan of the graphics on the new ProTests (my kids love them however). I don't want to tell tales out of school, but if it helps Keith sell skis....................I talked to Keith about it and he is putting the Powder Board tops on a pair for me. So if the graphics are holding you back, talk to Keith about options. He might not be able to to it at this late date on this run of skis, but maybe the next run.

Sweet looking skis. What's not cool is the separate pdf if you want to see what the specs are. I really wanna look at all the details of all the skis, but the site makes it really really tedious.

Well grow a pair and click on it, because it is one of the more detailed spec sheets out there and went a ways towards me choosing Praxis.

It takes 5 seconds for the pdf page to load in my Chrome browser on a new tab, just a little longer than any other web page.

Island Bay - I'm hearing you, and looking forward to the sticks.

While I do like all the specs and drawings, I have to agree that it's a fairly retarded way to set up the web site. He's better at building skis than web sites.

anyone dare to compare/contrast Praxis BC shape/feel to Lhasa Pow? Lots of True Believers in both camps, not sure if anyone has actually spent a few days on both.
