it's VERY rocky in NJ and almost impossible to find buff and burmed single track. The closest thing i've seen in the area is Stewart Airport off the NY Thruway. Exit 17 i think. Diablo was set up at the Mtn Creek ski resort in the spring/summer. I think the mtn is just going to run it now. Def want a DH bike for most of that stuff up there. I'm 15 min from Ringwood and def take it easy on the technical stuff if you wanna meet up sometime.

Rode the white loop at allamuchy south yesterday followed by upper chute > warthog > upper chute at jungle. Only stuff I have ridden so far with truly fast, smooth sections mixed with fun techy switchbacks and log/stream crossings. Upper chute = tech city.

Absolutely. Check out the race trail at Ringwood for some real cool stuff. You can also go back and ride 6 bridges. All the trail maps can be found on the JORBA.org site. And if you can get up to Stewart Airport its a lot of fun.

I've been trying to ski as much as possible with the rapidly melting snow. Maybe in a few weeks, we can organize a Ringwood maggot ride. I can put together a ride that'll have some bail-outs so people of differing conditioning/time constraints can join. Whatever we do, it would be a no-drop ride (but also not a beginner ride as Ringwood is technical).
We could possibly follow something along this track. Six Bridges is an easy diversion and so is Bear Swamp/Cannonball (probably for another day).

Sounds good to me. If i can make the date work, i'd def join. And appreciate the bailout areas as my conditioning sucks right now.
That loop you attached looks great, i'm pretty sure i've done that same loop minus the six bridges stuff. i usually hit six bridges as a seperate ride. Did you start and finish at the middle school on that ride??northern lights and southern comfort...

Are there any other maps out there for Ringwood? The only one I have found is this one from Jorba and MTBNJ. Its a little confusing. Ended up doing a hell of a ride yesterday.

school parking lot > erskine view > ringwood/ramapo > skylands > race trail > shepard lake road > by-pass road > whites road > boulder way > ice pond > cats nest trail > ringwood/ramapo (somehow missed cannonball) > continued to top of ramapo mountain and took skyline drive down to town and back up to the middle school.
No idea how many miles, but it was a long one. Rode all of it except a few sections up the very tight switchbacks going up ramapo mtn.

thats a good ride my man, i'd venture to call it somewhere around 15 miles. those are the only maps i've seen of ringwood and they have gotten me lost on many occasions. i have a garmin 800 that i loaded some other peoples maps into. typically i just pick a loop from those and simply follow the arrows. i havent been back to ringwood since i broke my shoulder on the race course last summer. how were conditions?

Conditions were great. Seems like some solid trail work has been done recently.
I assume warm puppy was the super sketchy section that I also pussed out on most of since I was on clipless and riding solo. That is some gnarly shit! Definitely wanna try that with some armor and flat pedals.
Ringwood group ride soon?

Great to hear about conditions. I'm going to try and get over there soon, would love to do a group ride sometime soon. Just wanna get some bike legs going first so i'm not holding everyone up.
And yup, Warm Puppy is super sketch section of all rock with that steep fall off should something go wrong. I've seen it done without a tap many times, but I ride clipless also and almost always puss out there. Armor and flat pedals would certainly help.northern lights and southern comfort...

Back in NJ, I want to ride a lot the next few months before I move to AZ.
Who's down for Allamuchy on Mon, Tues evening? I have new lights I need to try too so I wouldn't mind a late start.

Perfect riding weather today! Did ringwood-ramapo from the school to the top and back. Over 1100 feet of gain. Not bad for NJ.

Anyone here in union/morris county up for some after work rides starting around 6? Allamunchy/Ringwood are a bit far for me on weeknights.

Anyone riding this afternoon/evening?
Suggestions for Allamuchy North? I have never ridden there. Are the trails/maps as confusing as they seem?
Looking for something to get some good distance on tomorrow. Even if I have to drive 2 hours each way. I will be staying in Bergen County tonight so easy access to southern NY. Looking for 10+ miles of flowy stuff. Not looking for perfect buffed groomers, but stuff where I can get up some speed and cover some distance without getting wrecked on endless rocks/roots.

I like the tranquility side better. Hit Orange to warm up, then climb up Purple. Lots of options from there, but stuff isn't too well marked.
I would join you but I'm going to central PA.

Oh and I think there's a group ride at Allamuchy on Thursdays. Check out Jorba or MTBNJ for details.

Ended up doing a 10 mile loop at allamuchy from tranquility. Orange > cardiac > lumpy > some trail with little aluminum circle blaze > white. Fucking awesome trails!!! Great mix of tech and speed. A few good places for airs on the dh sections.
Dont know where to ride today though.

Did about 10-11 miles today at Stewart State Forest. Fast, flowy, bermy stuff like you see in the magazines. Very little elevation change, but a couple little steep challenges. Mostly big ring blind turn windy singletrack with dirt roads dividing up the sections.

Super gaper/jong post about to happen, in 3.2.1...
It’s strange for me to see Ringwood as the title of a TGR thread with killer stoke and people getting after it in the hills of my original stomping ground. I spent the first 25 years of my life in Ringwood & my parents still live on Skyline Dr. I always new there were trails and shit growing up but we just used them to get to some backwoods area to smoke weed and finger-bang our girlfriends, it wasn’t until I moved to VT that I realized what was in my backyard, literally!
Anyway, if any of you mags find yourself on the Ringwood side of Skyline Dr on a Sunday afternoon, my greasy Italian parents will be cooking some pasta and sausage for sure - so shoot me a PM and I will let them know you are coming for Sunday dinner.
End gaper/jong post."Listen boy,
We all take turns being assholes in this life and it was your turn today, so smarten the fuck up dildo."

I'll pass on the dinner invite but if you have any ex gfs that are up for getting finger banged back there let us know.
On another note, I finally got my DH rig up and running this weekend and got out to Mountain Creek on Saturday. Very busy and a ton of good riders out there for the race, but its good to see them ripping around. I got a pass up there for the first time this season so if anyone wants to ride let me know, I'm around most weekends.Take everything you like seriously, except yourselves.

Rode at Jungle with OrangeGondola this weekend. Fun place for sure. Did some local loop on Sunday as well. NJ has some good riding. Guess I can't totally write off the state yet.
It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

Bumping this since the weathers getting better to see if any of you all want to get out and ride. Probably going to hit ringwood this weekend but could be convinced to go elsewhere. Not looking for a race pace ride since its early season and what not.

I could be down. Not exactly sure what my plans are yet. Allamuchy North rode really well last weekend. I'm assuming ringwood has been cleaned up since sandy?
