Cool way to reuse old bike stuff! I like the gallery note holders, seems like bike shops should be buying a ton of those to use as price tag holders
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

Newest guy here, I am calling it 'Fudgie the Screaming Mallard'.
(Couldn't help but think of Hop while cutting this one)
A few more refinements here, playing with more sophisticated cutting of the steel. (Man, I will need a plasma cutter next!)
This one is ~ 7", perfect for an office wall, guest room, or other smaller application.
Got two others started last night, the 'Hungry canadian Mouse' cheesetray is up next!Last edited by rideit; 08-02-2011 at 09:54 AM.

We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.

Haven't quite gotten the welding process down for chains, especially for stainless. It's on the to do list, though. Any mags specialize in mixed material welding?

If you're serious about it, see if you can get an article in Dirt Rag or Bike... what you're doing is pretty cool, and I could easily see them having interest for a shorter piece. There has to be someone on here that knows those folks well.

Good idea for an article. I 'know' Maurice a little. I have thought about it a bit, and I want to have ten more pieces or so done before doing this, including some bigger pieces. I also need some professional photography, but i still have to pay for my welder, a drill press, router table, band saw, and about $500 in various things first. I DEFINITELY am going to get a plasma cutter, but hot damn, they are expensive.
If there are any still life/commercial photographers here or near Jackson, I certainly would be interested in a trade.
Yes, I am taking this quite seriously, all of the feedback I have received is incredible, and is pointing me to making this a continuing body of work. I only made my first piece around 2 months ago, so I am pretty happy with how it is progressing.

Might want to create an Etsy account if you haven't already. It would be a nice change from the crocheted condom holders and macaroni decorated picture frames that make up most of the stuff on there.

You should look into local "adventure" magazines and newspapers too- get the word out locally with a little press coverage before you try to get into the national magazines.
Free advertising is the best kind.

Got my clock last week, its hanging on the wall now, a nice little addition to the room. Stoked for you hope it all pans out. How are things going?

Things are going great, Loon!
I have some other clocks and pieces that have gone out to some other mags, aside from a few small teething issues, I think everyone is quite pleased.
This has really taken off, and I have been focused on building the business in the right way as much as the art. Little things like customer service, systems for shipping and tracking, instruction sheets and warranty info, basically all of the things that I like to see in businesses that I deal with.
I have a bunch more pieces that I have to get up on here, as well as some in the works that (I think) will be amazing. The winter will hopefully bring some quite large clocks, intended for outdoor applications, like ski shop walls, base lodges, hotel lobbies, etc. They will be hybrid ski/bike pieces, more to come as I can source recycled materials for the projects. Basically, I need unusable skis and boards, probably as many as I can get ahold of. Fat tips and tails would be best, but old school skinny skis will work as well.
Hang loose, I have tons in the works!
OH, I will have a variety of items in the $20, $50, $75, and $100 range for holiday gifts, including business card holders, picture frames, napkin holders, trivets, smart phone charging stands, smaller clocks, and a few others. Still working on a menorah!

Damn, I NEED ~144+ used Jockey wheels by Dec. 1st...and trashed freehub bodies.
(i know these aren't 'traditional', but I figure that's what Rabbis are for, to argue about this shit! Next round will be in a straight line.)Last edited by rideit; 09-11-2011 at 07:58 PM.

Ok, I got sidetracked...and made this super awesome Iphone/Ipod dock.
I am going to make as many of these as possible. They will be available with an actual dock, or a cord with wall and car charger.
Thinking these will start at $49.00 (with usb cord).
Thoughts?

cool stuff. How'd you end up gluing the screw heads to glass?
Do you smooth out the edges of those rotors at all?
bring one of your little bidness card holders to Enchiladafest and I got a $20 with your name on itThe killer awoke before dawn.

I'll bring a bunch!
(and I will be making product there)
Some new things.
Here is a refinement on the dock, this comes WITH base, USB cord, AND AC power adaptor.
Last nights tinkering: first table lamp proto.
These things are going to be absolutely gorgeous. This is just proto, I will also be using reclaimed woods for the shafts and base 'spacers', and much smaller shades of differing shapes.
They will be very clean, and not too gear-heady.
Or maybe some will be.
I am really liking these. Will be doing sconces when I get back from the desert.
