Anyone download it today?

I installed it on my laptop and haven't had too much time with it yet so I can't really give a full review as of yet.

But here is a tip. For the $29 upgrade you can install it on multiple computers. You have 2 options to do this.

#1 - You can download it on a system using your login. Then you can install it. If you want you can then go to another system, log into the app store and download it again under the same user name for free.

#2 - This is the option I prefer. After downloading, it will automatically try to auto-install. Force quit the installer. The installer will live in your applications folder under "Install Mac OS X Lion". You can now either burn this installer to a disk, throw it on a thumb drive or transfer it over a network to another drive. The reason you want to do this is once the installer you downloaded runs, it auto-deletes so you need to get the duplicate the installer on another system or other media so you don't need to download the 3.75G installer again.

I did option #2 because my laptop is my "throwaway" device. If I run into bugs it isn't that big of a deal. I threw it on my edit system zipped because since a .0 release are notoriously often unstable and unsupported by a lot of hw/sw and I couldn't risk it on something I make a living on.

For those of us that have been on macs a long time, a $29 non-point release is something that only got introduced since SL and is nice. Also, we were originally told you NEEDED to DL the software from the app store which means you needed SL in order to get it. Next month, if you don't have SL, you will be able to buy the software on a thumb drive but at a $69 premium.

OK I got a problem. I saw this in the beta and saw a lot of backlash to it so I assumed it would be fixed. It wasn't. There is no way to rearrange the finder sidebar like you could in the past. It is 100% upside down compared to past incarnations of OS X.

Devices like HD's, CD's, mounted externals, etc used to be on top and now they are on the bottom, Shared was in the middle and favorites were on the bottom. And currently according to everything I have tried and tons of forum searches there is no way to rearrange this. This flips over 10 years of the way it has worked on its head. UNACCEPTABLE!

I am running it and so far it has been great. Mail is taking a bit of getting used to but Mission Control and Launch Pad are two nice additions. The swiping is a bit different but getting used to it. The autofill of words is awkward but helpful so far, not too many strange options coming up. All in all worth the upgrade for sure. I am looking forward to iCloud and IOS5 for the phone.

iOS 5 is pretty sweet. Beta 1 sucked so bad. My phone would freeze, safari would crash after almost every page load, I would miss texts, it was just a nightmare. Beta 3 is much better. Still I think a little bloated for the 3GS but I'll get an i4s in late August if the rumors are true.

The swiping between spaces and full screen apps are sweet!

I assume there is a way around this but haven't done any searching yet. In Firefox I was able to automagically jump to the top of the page with a 3 finger up swipe before and now that just reveals all open windows. Maybe when I get more time I'll look into that but today I'm working on my tan

Having devices on the bottom of the sidebar is going to aggravating once I end up on a busier network.

Mission control has actually got me to use spaces. Though moving between spaces with a 3 fingered swipe is ticking me off a bit because it just got into my muscle memory as the way to open an close the mail view in Sparrow.

I downloaded it right away in the morning but didn't install till after work. You don't have to force quit to get out of the installer. I forgot to make a copy of the installer, but thankfully time machine caught it.

For some reason the old Adobe CS4-ish updater got re-added to LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons, but hopefully by deleting the plists it will go away at the next restart.

I am giving it a week or two before upgrading both of my Macs...but to be honest, I am really happy with Snow Leopard.

The swiping is different than the current abilities with the Magic Trackpad?

i upgraded. able to resize windows from every corner was worth it. most other things were reverted to what it was before.

Any word on how well Lion runs on an older MacBook with only 2 gigs of memory? Snow Leopard ran badly when run on the minimum memory requirements.

^No idea about the 2GB of memory as I have 6 but the laptop I am running it on is a 2.4 C2D MBP (non-unibody) which is easily 3+ years old and it runs fine.

Solid advice. I'm excited about Lion, but not happy about how it's download only. Is it true that you can't get it on a disc? Either way, going buy your method, it'll be sweet to have it backed up on a thumb drive.

I dunno about swiping. I wasn't using different spaces before, so 3 fingered swipe was forward and back in browsers and showing the message view in Sparrow.

Right now logging in/out and booting seems a bit chunkier than they are going for with some color changes, but that might just be an effect of running f.lux.

Yes, no disk. But starting next month you can buy it already on a thumb drive but it is double the cost that way. :/

I upgraded yesterday, too, and this is the only thing I've found that pisses me off. Still playing around with it, and probably won't use some of the new things like Launchpad, but I'm diggin' it so far...

Default setting doesn't let you go back/forward, but you can change that. That was the second thing I was pissed about, but relieved to have figured it out.

^If you don't mind using the keyboard Command+shift+[ and Command+shift+] will cycle you between tabs in pretty much any piece of software in OS X.

Yup, all the gestures work on this laptop no problem! It's the last model before the unibody's came out. Like has been said, Firefox doesn't take advantage of all of them yet but the OS and other apps work superb!

do you need to relogin if you want to install on a second computer?
i am tempted to pick this up, but I have been happy with SL

As for the inverse menu bar, it's configurable. I just dragged my discs to the top of the bar- not a big deal.

Yeah, you just dragged your devices to your favorites. What happens when you put in a new DVD, CD or mount a new external drive... it appears at the bottom. It IS a big fucking deal.

Lion hides the user/library/ directory by default. If you go in there often like I do, open up terminal type "chflags nohidden ~/Library/" without the quotes and hit enter. Now your library directory will show up in your finder.

Oh yeah, and I found this which turns almost all cocoa apps fullscreen if you are into that. Did it myself and am enjoying it.

Still nice and dandy or has some weird bugs come up? Contemplating if I should upgrade a partition for shit and giggles but...you know?
Have old progs that will stay on the production side,but would like to migrate slowly to the dim side. Prolly should upgrade my laptop first..

I like the OS. Still not comfortable trusting it on my work system but getting there.

The only real concern is the upside down finder I mentioned earlier. I have 5 internal drives in my MacPro, an eSata RAID, an eSata docking station for bare drives and usually multiple fw drives hooked up. I go to those way more often than anything else since I launch everything via spotlight. So now I'll have to open the finder, scroll down to the drives and start my searching. And I know people will say to just make your finder windows big but i usually have so many open for moving things around that even with a 2 screens it just wouldn't be enough real-estate. It sounds insignificant but over the course of a work day it will add up to a lot of time.

Also, a lot of the functionality of the swipes will be lost on that system since I use a trackball instead of a trackpad. I'm thinking once I take the plunge I may buy a trackpad for my left hand for swipe functionality... but then I'll have to take my left hand off the keyboard which I normally never do :/

Not changing just yet. Frome what I've read Quicken won't work in Lion. iWow won't work in Lion. VMware won't work in 64 bit without a $40 upgrade. God only knows what else will become suddenly and inconveniently useless. Sorry, I love apple but WTF?

I have always hated these major OS upgrades that require spending more money on shit that worked just fine before.
