Just got the bad call- stories about bone grafts to repair shoulder/labrum?

Title pretty much says it all. Was expecting a steady diet of PT (like I had for my right shoulder) but looks like the left went the cluster-f route. Doc says he's might be able to repair artho without the graft but it's likely they'll have to cut a piece of my hip and stick it in to fix it up - he won't know till he goes in. Totally was not expecting that. What am I looking at, timeline wise? (My Doc is awesome but consequently I've got to wait a month for op = major bummer). I've never had a bone graft and am kind of freaked out.

I've had two bone grafts, one from my hip and one from a cadaver. Both worked out just fine. Taking bone form the hip I think has a higher success rate because you're using your bodies own material. You should be prepared for some pain afterwards when you sit up or try to use your core muscles. I remember getting out of bed being the worst of it, but only for a few days.

The good thing is that you are going to get your shoulder fixed. If it hasn't healed yet, it's not going to heal until you get this graft in place.

I had two inches from my hip grafted to my heel ten years ago. The hip was a little tender and sore for a couple of weeks but everything healed up great! Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm actually pretty stoked to get this and be done with having my shoulder dislocate from less force then pushing over a man in the depths of an ether binge. How long before you guys were skiing, riding bikes, and doing work with the girl (/wife if that applies) again after the knife?

Thanks again- I'm a rook/jong around here but I appreciate everyone's helpful and thoughtfulness- after all it's hard to hate on anyone who dreams about pow while in the clutches of summer : )
