Thread: Anyone catch John Stossels show "The Money Hole" ??

Yep, it was on FOX. Was scanning channels Sunday and watched a part of it. Pretty interesting piece. Let's hear the resident libs tear it apart.

His cases illustrate pretty strongly the far over reaching effects of bigger and bigger govt and the effects it's had on economies around the hemisphere.

Less government red tape and fewer agencies, and tax revenues go up, employment goes up, profits go up.

Free enterprise is the correct path to prosperity not govt handouts, red tape and more taxes.

But hey, it's FOX so it can't be correct right !!!!!????

I wonder how the hell we made it as a nation before the advent of big government. We must have just gotten lucky.........

We will sink in our own good intentions if we don't change course and step away from an all powerful central govt with overreaching powers.

It takes a lot of higher education that you can only get from liberal college professors to be able to understand why freedom, the free market system and libertarianism is only for simpletons.

I saw it, I like the stuff Stossel puts out. Seems he puts alot of research into his stories.

He's had a pretty respectable track record of fair reporting. And to be fair it's not just our govt. It's govt in general. His piece focuses on how govts become too bog and unresponsive nit that they're Bad just uncontrolled.

I don't have cable. My view is that anything Fox puts out is tainted by bullshit. That's all I can offer.

Ape man, since when is a political agenda creating a govt that helps people succeed as opposed to just spending more and more money driving its citizenry deeper into debt? Thats not political thats what our govt was supposed to do. Shouldn't that be the objective of all govt?

I don't think anyone who is reasonable would disagree that gov't has the ability and sometimes does restrict economic growth.

Additionally they also create incentives and a general environment in which lots and lots of people make shit tons of money.

The trick is to figure out the proper balance and that's pretty fucking difficult in a system that is this complex.

The no gov't people are just as stupid as the NK style state planners.

Well, I don't fall into the no govt group, but I do fall into the smaller govt group. His examples were pretty good and illustrated many areas where govt is just put of control with spending. Canadas and Puerto Ricos economies if the stats presented were correct, were great examples of how we're doing it wrong here.

You’re just mad they tore down the log cabin you were born in. I kind of agree. I always feel very unsatisfied with his libertarian sales pitch. I yell at the TV when I'm watching Stossel.

seemed pretty straightforward to me. government spends too much on some pretty ridiculous programs in a time of financial crisis when we can least afford it. of course, it still dwarfs the waste on wars and the (non)stimulus but that doesn't mean it's still a good idea to waste money. what's so horribly wrong with that?
