Lots of issues for the Freecaster broadcast team, but there was some great racing today.
Don’t race. Leave that to the scorchers.

I am still trying to figure out how Stevie Smith kept it upright in the rocks at the top

Awesome race. Minnaar helped out my fantasy team, and nice seeing a bunch of the new guns kicking ass (Brook Macdonald especially, holy shit he had a good ride), as well as seeing Rachel Atherton back on track and looking faaaaaaast again. Stoked for Leogang this week.Keep it unclipped

Also never seen anyone throw a no-hander in the middle of a WC DH run. It's CG's world, we just live in it!

He did it last year off of a much gnarlier drop at Wyndham and nearly lost it afterward before bringing it together. It was insane both times though. The guy is a rock star.
Shame about Gwin. He absolutely destroyed the top 2/3rds of the course. Rumor is that he had a crash somewhere on the bottom third, right? It's pretty amazing that he was still able to podium and beat out Peat and Hill with a crash (if true).

Fortunately it's not. And unfortunately he'll never win anything as long as he keeps that shlt up. That guy has more talent in one moustache hair than most people do in their entire body and it sucks to not see him giving it his all anymore. It was cute 8 years ago when you could still win races messing around for a few seconds but that's not the case anymore. I'm honestly starting to think he's scared to try for fear of what he might discover. Literally every single rider in the finals of a world cup could do entire run of that crap but they don't because they're in a RACE. Even if it's just once, I want to see that guy annihilate the field. Ain't gonna happen with a bunch of clown tricks though.

Maybe it's not a race for CG. He's a brand, an image, and he's got his own logo. Pulling those moves midrace does more for his marketability than going all out and finishing 6th or 8th. The guys got crazy style but I don't think he has the fitness and power to duke it out with Minaar, Atherton and Gwin on a regular basis for the podium. Plus, he appears to be having a hell of a lot more fun than those guys. I say "keep it up" to CG.

Probably true.
Dude is a showman for sure though, and the crowds dig it. Gotta estimate that at any given WC DH maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the spectators aren't too knowledgeable about the sport? Ask any of those people who's run they remember. You could argue some of CG's antics may actually be turning people on to the sport. Maybe not though, and that shit should be saved for Crankworx and the Rampage?

Yeah that's what I tell myself.
But then he came out this year and specifically stated he was focusing hard on dh racing (quitting 4x and such). So uh......yeah
Besides....look at ridemonkey. Lots of dolts out there spending money on bikes and parts VERY SPECIFICALLY based on what top 10 WC guys get paid to ride. It's pathetic but it's true. I don't see anyone running out to buy panaracer tires because CG does a sketchy no hander in the middle of a run. It's my personal opinion that CG is an inherently better bike rider than most of the guys beating him. Just bums me out a bit to not see him take mixing it up with them a little more seriously these days. I mean that WAS part of his brand years ago: Here's a top WC racer who can also kill it in freeride and dirtjump events. He obviously can't win the dirtjump contests called slopestyle these days........turns out he can win a race either. Like I said, he might be scared to try. I don't know. Whatever though, his life, his career.STRAVA: Enabling dorks everywhere to get trails shut down........ all for the sake of a race on the internet.

Agreed, I just can't tell how much of it is CG ensuring that he's marketable as he ages. Kinda like Hans Rey - he (Rey) still has a job even though he hasn't done any noteworthy riding in quite some time. CG's still getting a lot of press at these races, even though he isn't posting especially impressive results.
While I agree that CG has a massive amount of skill, he's also getting older. I think as people get older, it get harder and harder to depend on skill alone; letting it all hang out and hoping for the best (see: Danny Hart) doesn't work out as often. The older guys that are still competitive are staying in the game through rigorous training, which doesn't really seem like it was ever CG's strong suit.

Racer or name brand, I thought CG's antics were great viewing.
Don’t race. Leave that to the scorchers.

Does anyone know if Freecaster will be broadcasting the DH in Leogang? I only see 4x listed on their site. Or anywhere else to watch it?

Thanks Woo. I found it myself by following backtracking your link, but it looks like its not part of the MTB WC DH events list on the bottom right of the mtb page. Or maybe I'm just not that smart.
Either way thanks for the assist.
