Anyone doing the salt water thing?

Fishing is finally turning on in So Cal with the last week producing some quality yellowtail fishing in Mexican waters (20-30 miles south of SD). Hoping for a good season as last year was one of the worst in years.

Was hoping to post a good report from Thursday's adventure but it was an ass kicking for zero fish. Classic "you should have been here yesterday" story. Tues/Wed produced fish. Thursday was a trainwreck of too many boats, ugly swell and no fish. Left a 4am and returned at 2pm with nothing to show but a $200 gas bill. At least the boat ran great and we are ready for the tuna to show.

Destination - Rockpile. 27 miles south of Mission Bay.

Big swells. Boats would disappear between waves.

I think that is in the running as my next sled. That is a Sailfish, right? What size?

Loving the single 300 on there. I just hate twins. What is cruise and WOT?

Sux about the fishing, but that's why they call it...

    you know the rest.

1994 hull with a 2004 motor. Cruise at 20 knots at 4K rpms burning 12-15 gallons per hour depending on the load and or seas. If it's nice out we'll bump it up to 43-4400 and run 24 knots at 16-17 gph. WOT is 30 knots or so but I don't like the gas bill at that speed.

She's a great boat. Solid and comfortable. 9 foot beam and lots of room to fish 3 or 4 guys.

My buddy is getting a Sea Hunt BX24 with that new 300 Yammi on it. Should be a 60 mph boat. I am a bit scared.

Expected a little better numbers than that. Must be the beam. What is the deadrise on those? Beautiful boat though- looks awesome for a '94. I want to go up to a 25, but the extra fuel cost is keeping me in my 21 for a while.

My 1986 21 Mako with an OX66 200 cruises at about 4200 and goes about 32 mph. Might not be the ideal for gas burn, but that is where the engine sounds right, if that makes sense. With no floscan, I really don't know. That is within specs though. WOT is 5600 and 42-45 mph depending on how much hull I get out of the water. I let 'er rip at least once in the channel on the way home, just to make sure nothing is wrong.
