Question Is there a fix for the Scarpa Maestrale cuff slop?

As anyone who's tried them on or skied them knows, the Scarpa Maestrale has the annoying quirk that the cuff has at least 10mm of fore-aft slop before it starts to engage the flex.

This sucks, because it's otherwise an excellent boot: much stiffer than a TLT5, with almost as easy of a walk mode. And it doesn't fit like a Kleenex box, unlike all the other Scarpas I've ever tried on.

Anyone know exactly why this is, and know how to fix it? I can't tell if it's slop in the ski/walk mechanism, flex in the way it attaches to the boot clog, or both.

Mine only seem to have 5mm at the top of the cuff. I don't notice it when skiing, so I haven't cared much, but I'd be interested as well.

from what i've heard about the general construction of some ski/walk mechanisms on the market...in order to have adjustment for cuff alignment/canting...there needs to be some slop in the system, since the cuff moves and the ski/walk bar is static.

It was a different problem but I noticed that my walk mode had a huge amount of friction. I took it apart to find that one of 8 machine screws holding the walk mode together (between the two boots) had two washers on it between the walk mode piece and the boot shell. I had to put washers on all the other screws to remove the friction. What I'm saying is that mine wasn't assembled properly from the factory and perhaps yours isn't either. Killer boots other than that.

A lot of discussion about friction at wildsnow, but I don't recall anything about excess slop. Definitely some QC issues with these boots, nothing major, but annoying.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
