Photo TR: Drops and Dumps in CO, 3.29.11
As a "consolation prize" to the 60"+ in Utah and the 100"+ in Cali, Ullr blessed those in Colorado with 24" (plus some) in 48 hours. Meaning one thing- a quick "sick day" email yesterday afternoon, a couple of texts messages, and we had a solid crew heading up from Denver early Tuesday morning. Here are some shots from the day full of deep snow and big ballsy drops.
Donkey Punch starts things off with a big hit, landing about 10 feet out of the shot:

Powtron in his steeze-alicious purple getup, getting it done.

Skiberly likes deep snow (and taking up the rear). Can you tell?

Powtron's purple steeze dropping into tight spaces in the trees.

Powtron on the ground, enjoying the deepness too.

Lindahl goes HUDGE. The takeoff was easily 10 feet above where he is in this shot, and the landing is down at the bottom of the shadows.

Skiberly, still smiling.

Poop Ghost, getting dirty with some pillow talk.

Donkey Punch hits another big'un. As the photog, it's pretty sweet when you can hear the skier fly by so close, and land 10 feet behind where you're standing.

Yeah, it was deep. Powtron can testify.

Lindahl likes fluffy pillows as well.

And one last parting shot, Donkey Punch about to touch down.

Bunch of fucking gapers, let me tell you...
Sick Shots! As I said in another thread, there were two landings that my line of sight actually went BLACK, not white. So was I in the Black Room being under the snow?

Got a nice huck-neck from that one - deep landings aren't always what you want.. hah. Pretty sure that one was at least 35 feet.
Unfortunately smmokan couldn't be with us for the next lap where I sent a sick 40'-50' super steep pillow line. It was more like a free-fall with a pillow tag halfway down and a tricky sideways entrance air that required a re-alignment on the top pillow. I think PoopGhost got some real photos of it, but here's a frame-grab sequence:

B- you need to tilt that image to the right significantly to show the true steepness of that line!

Solid work...your 24" looks like 100, while our 100" looked 2.4".
The top of Mammoth was closed during a lot of the storm cycle and picked huge amounts, but the wind packed it so dense it was like skiing groomed double diamonds all day.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

Haha.. no.. my form just sucked ass on that one drop. I can stomp like a madman, but my form is not consistent. Here's a video of that same drop, showing what PowTron means by the 'Black Room':
Yeah... fucking burly exit line through the trees - could barely keep it in my sights after landing.Last edited by Lindahl; 03-30-2011 at 12:25 PM.

Holy shit Lindahl... Could you actually see when you threaded those two trees at the end, it looked totally blind from the video. You sir have big cojones.

Yesterday was the best day of this season for me, maybe even including last year. Between untracked bottomless runs right off the chair, and then two laps in EV, it was exactly the day I was waiting for. Good crew + Great snow = day of win!
The only downsides where my big toe issues, and getting hit on the way to my 3 year anniversary dinner with my wife. 89 year olds with dementia, who are under 24 hour supervision should NOT be able to sneak away, find their car keys and go for a joy ride. Fortunately he still had insurance on his '77 Ford, so the nearly $3K in damage to my FJ will be fixed quickly.
I felt really good about that drop until I saw him submarine for so long. But alas I sacked up and did it, and I will say that it seemed like even longer waiting to see where the F&ck I was headed, after landing. The Worst mistakes, make the best memories.
