Powder stress in Eberg today. Steinberg looked totally tracked by 12, quite many tracks on Galti and Laub and even some tracks at the Sülzli area eventhough the lifts are closed on that side of the mountain... Heard that it took two hours to get to the top around 10am.
Of course i was doomed to hiking because of partially ruptured bicebs.
Well i hope the bankers enjoyed the public holiday....

Great day out in the bernina massif. We went to the Piz Palue.
Going up on the Vadret Pers towards Piz Palue. East summit in the middle, main summit just a bit to the right.

Passing a huge bergschrund

Knife edge ridge from the east summit to the main summit.
Who sees Waldo?
That would be me, taking a rest after the first third of the ridge. I went for another third, before I had to waive the white towel, after trying to make my way over to the main summit for about an hour. The ridge was just a bit too sharp today. With some help I might would have made it, but all the others turned around earlier, or would not even try. Have to save it up for another time.

Close up of the ridge. About 50 degrees on both sides. Don't fall here!

On the way back traversing over to the Val d'Arlas.

Close-up of Piz Palue

A few last turns in the Val d'Arlas in some wind buffed powder before hitting corn and slush further down.

Ski meets grass just a bit before the bernina pass road.

Max flying towards lake Zervreila after an impressive, superlong tour (2200 vertical meters, 24 km long) to the Gueferhorn near Vals in eastern Switzerland on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
We did not see a soul after we passed the lake and we really enjoyed the solitude. Unfortunately the summit was soaked in with foehn clouds, but below 3000 m we enjoyed a nice spring day.
Might just have been the last turns of the season?! But there usually is time for just one more!

actually I'm not a fan of FB / FB-voting, but I’d appreciate a comment somewhere on this site with "19". (no "like" required) Thanks.
If you dislike my pics, please comment with "16" - these pics are, by far, my favourites (f: Paul Masukowitz).

There was time for one more.
Last saturday (May 26, 2012) we went to the Galenstock in central CH for (most probably) the last tour of the season.
Galenstock in the morning sun

Looking north from the summit towards Tiefenstock and Rhonenstock.
There still would be plenty of snow to go on for several weeks, but at some point you gotta break out your summer gear.

Last turns of the season on the Tiefenglacier.

I took my bike out now and I am ready for the summer.
However some peeps still are going strong.
My buddy Danski just skied the Eiger west face yesterday.
His pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/danski8...gerAtTheEiger#
and his friend Mika's pics: https://picasaweb.google.com/1150455...H02JzcuqCUywE#
Congratulations!!!
Enjoy the summer!Last edited by IridePow; 06-03-2012 at 01:33 PM.

Nice lines indeed! Congrats!
Meanwhile, in other parts of Eurasia, the final bits of snow change into liquid state...

Hey Euros,
I'm heading back to Nendaz next season and plan on documenting the adventure. I plan on putting up daily events and conditions in Nendaz, Verbier and the 4 Valleys.
Take a look around Nendaz Snow Report and watch it if you want info on the area.

Anybody still skiing? Zermatt maybe? Might be up for a day down there soon and just wondering how conditions are. Been cool and rainy so maybe some fresh high up? Probably cement, but I wouldn't complain

There is was 10-15cm of new in cervinia yesterday. The problem is that a lot of snow seems to have dissappeared in the last two weeks.. A lot more crevasses than in the previous years at the same time, seems that the melting is 2-3 weeks ahead of the ususal.
Higher peaks looked good though!
The floggings will continue until morale improves.
