hochfügen: big area (more blues for the kids)
kühtai: smaller area (mostly reds for the kids) absolutely a plus! has a full sunny side for the afternoon/or a shady side for the afternoon (it depends on the wife)

meathelmet, as wisely already said by many the old poma lift was almost of no help for the lui variation... and yes, if you're tired you can always divert to the velan hut. Anyway, it's probably a bit too early to decide about what will be the less crawded/more snowy variation

If you like slogging, then go from Montfort to Dix in a day!

That trip over Les Portons when going from Chanrion to Vignettes is the titties, however!

It was a cable that needed replacing last week AFAIK.

just checking for our haute route trip... day 3 on grand lui variation would mean 3000m/vert skinning without the lift...uuhh... I think reverting to the normal route will be the wisest...
    Yep. Way closed.

It's a nice way around and worth the climb if conditions are good.

Woke up at 3 a.m. to make it on a 6:50 flight to Prishtina. Around 7:30 they tell us it's canceled. Attempt to make it to Skopje tomorrow at the same time. Anybody on the ground over there? Is the chaos due to too much snow or piss-poor infrastructure to deal with it? I imagine it's more of the latter.

I dont get it: I read the TR to see why the dude in question seems to be doing fake-a-marks and I just dont see the explanation. I understand yugi but not you, jumpturn. No sweat though. Still are sweet pics.

We were touring on Sunday in eastern CH (Praettigau).
Northerly, shady aspects are still really good with about 30 cm of pow. Not the fluffiest anymore, but still very good.
You need to look for the sheltered areas though, because anything else is strongly wind affected.

Our tour was a bit too long; part of it because it was a long tour but also due to my friend's skins, which would not stick anymore in these temperatures. He had to bootpack for some distance, before we got them warmed up a bit again and could fix it temporarly with tape/wire/cord.

At least we could enjoy the awesome evening light and the rising moon after that exercise.
However my toes did not appreciate the temps, and I hope I will have them back to normal again when the weekend comes.

Please do not tell me about airports. Spent a whole night in heatrow after 50% of flights were canceled because of <5 cm snow

So it just occurred to me that I know very little about the pistes in Cham despite having skied there for about a month in total.

I'm race training a friend with Down Syndrome in preparation for the World Champs - we have a week of gate training booked in Flaine but will do 3 days warming up in Cham beforehand. She's a good advanced skier but we will be there late next week when it will be busy.

I was thinking of Le Tour, Flegere and Brevent. Maybe Les Houches but don't fancy the bus. Can't imagine I'd do anything more than scare her at GM.

    Thoughts?

Just happen to be leaving for Hochfügen tomorrow, any comments on the current conditions? Would it still be worth it to take my ehp's, or am I only going to find solid hardpack? Any 'secret' stashes around (willing to do some minor touring)? Thanks!

So any clue of what remains of those conditions, still scored some really good pow last weekend in Switserland, so what's up in Austria? Would imagine the Ostwand getting tracked like crazy?

I would say Combloux or Megeve if you just want nearby pistes for a day but if getting to Les Houches seems like a pain. . . your idea is probably the only real option.
