TR: Chamonix - Steep Skiing on S Face of Aiguille d'Entreves

After yesterday's bailout we went to the sunny side in search of steeps.

Skied some nice pow on the way

    Skinned a bit:

    Climbed up a ridge:

    Skied something really quite steep:

And opened it up down below:

Are you thinking of skiing it Marius? It seems much barer in Beretta's picture than I would've guessed. Last season we watched two people descend it. The line was wide and obvious from the peak to the bottom. There were plenty of other tracks too. With a heli-drop and the right day it must be a nice descent.

Glacier du Mort had enough to keep you busy yesterday, off the back of the Aiguilles Rouges.

    A very successful day out.

That looks sporting! How long are you under that nasty serac on the way up? Hard to tell from a foreshortened photo.

Nevermind, I bothered to actually click on the TR link. If that crew left at 7:30 I would need to leave at 6am or so just to top out at the same time.

Nice. I skied 2400m of epic corn on the sunny side today.

TR may be tomorrow though as I need to get some pics off a friend.

    Marius pm sent.

    It's a very impressive line.
A few friends of mine have it on their project list.

I personally am tempted as well, however after the birth of my now 2 year old daughter, things get put in a slightly different perspective.
So I probably won't ski any "no fall lines" anymore. And the hanging glacier you can also not disregard.

Actually I heard that earlier this season a big serac broke loose and a large part of the slope underneath was covered with broken ice blocks. However now the face/line looks pretty good to me again.

Anyone around for some skiing in the cham/verb/cour area 24th march- 10 april?

Will head down to cham area, plans of doing the haute route went tits up as one friend bailed and now it seems my other mate cant make it for touring extravaganza either due to work issues.

    FFFUUUCK!!!

So will be the first week somewhere in the france/italy/swiss area with wife and from the 1st april will be free to roam all over the place. Have skins, car & willing to travel. Touring, freeriding, chuting or 4000m bagging, anything goes!

ps. Anyone know it there is some freeride guiding in the said cham/cour/verb are? I mean hiring a guide is prolly out of my budget (what 700€/day?) but could hop in some group for a day or two.
Never tried any off group skiing/skiing with guides.. a bit hit or miss thing I guess?
I could always head to monte rosa area but fuck...have spent about 200 days there in the last 5 seasons so I think it is time to look for some new stomping grounds... you know, the grass is greener...

pps. anyone actually know for what kind of price, say, skiing mont blanc, would go? (edit: uuuh...1100€...)

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Touring and overnight stay at a hut by Lucern this weekend did not suck. Good snow, no need to cook or drive back home or to the mountain on saturday night/sunday morning and 5 nice powder runs. Well worth the 2.5 hr drive. Surprising how many people were touring there though. It felt more like sidecountry rather than backcountry. Luckily they were all skiing the baby pitches and leaving almost all the good lines for us.

Meathelmet - guiding is 300e per day. Still not insubstantial but better than 700e!

Jerome will be in Kamchatka then so unavailable but I can ask for a referral if you like.

Compagnie des Guides has a program called Cham Freeride, it is 120e per day, maybe get in touch with them about that.

Glacier Bron in very good shape on Saturday and still plenty of tracks up there to be had. Keyhole Sunday was solid but not as good as the Bron.

Thanks guys for the beta! Yep, Jerome would have been awesome, been enjoying your TR:s a lot lately (and last years.) Will have to contact couple of my friends as well if they have contacts.
Checked out couple of places and for example skiing mt.blanc would be over 1000-1200€...steep...
Blondin, thanks for the info as well.Appreciated!
But, lets see how things pan out. And yeah, if anyone have good contacts with peeps/guides, send a pm or something! Or mags that happen to have some free time...

Few tracks in the lower bowl area, but I couldn't see any above that.
