I will be around beginning next Wednesday if anyone wants to get together for turns or alcoholism. Flying into Zurich, so could go about anywhere, no place to be until St Anton on Saturday evening.

Will be in Arlberg or Northern Italy for 10 days or so, then in Chamonix for awhile. I am planning on a couple of tours, which means I usually bring white-out blizzards with me!

i was going to but pulled out of the tour because of a bad knee. the people who did do it left their bags at bivio post office and collected them 4 or 5 days later at Tiefencastle station without problems

Just come back from Bivio, three days of touring with all sorts of conditions, snow under 2200 m is of the worst kind, good for water skiing, but in the alpine not all that bad after all.... let's hope in some new snow this week.

    Big time.

Guess the amount of fun trying to make back the 30 min of skiing over fields,on breakable crust, freestyling with my new boots....

No extra workout needed after that.

Sun is shining, weather is fine, fat skies and the BC is well even at that conditions.

I will be about, depending on snow. Send me a PM if you're going to be around, I'm staying in St Jakob for a few days next weekend.

This is quite a bit off-topic, but I will be in Courmayeur and Chamonix for a week in late August and early September before attending a wedding near Lyon and I was hoping that some of you could help me with the following query:

Please suggest some good guidebooks in English that describe
    a) climbing topos
    b) hiking routes and
    c) general culture

near (i) Courmayeur, (ii) Chamonix and maybe the (iii) Gran Paradiso region?

If you don't know any good guidebooks in English, please feel free to suggest some books in Italian, French or German (I can read those, but my girlfriend can't ...).

Additionally, what's the closest place to Courmayeur that has lift-served downhill mountainbiking even in late August?

For Cham/Courmayer the Piola topos are about the best for pure rock climbing (glacier crossings/approach might be needed). Available in both english and french.

I am planning on driving to Saas Fee with some friends for Saturday, but the radar seems to show a lot of snow coming to Chamonix right now. I'll decide as the day goes on. :-)
