Orash111, I guess this one is going to depend on what the wind does. We're forecast to get a shedload of wind overnight, which may cease at some point tomorrow afternoon.

    See http://www.meteocentrale.ch/?day=3&d...7&id=swiss&L=0 for more details.

My guess is probably not and, if the weather turns up as predicted, it wouldn't surprise me if a few of the top lifts don't run tomorrow.

Verbier was good today, about a foot of heavily wind affected snow freshening things up nicely. It was so good in fact that I did not really stop to take photos. Here, though are a couple of Bobinch in upper stairway.

In the morning I did the attelas chutes and verbier main bowl and the snow there was holding up really nice. I rode on the Savolyers side all afternoon and it was really heavy but still very easy to ride (but I snowboard). The shaded parts, however, were a lot less heavy.

I would assume that things up high will stay good, even though the freeze level is going up to 3000m (it says 3000m, but then forcasted max at 1500m, 2400m, and 3330m is below freezing): http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Verbier/6day/bot

Hopefully Mont Gele will open tomorrow :-)

extensive experience in spotting and evaluating avalanche hazards, together with great restraint, are essential.
New line added to the SLF bulletin seems particularly relevant for this year.

We arrived yesterday here in the Briancon area. About 5 cm of fresh wet snow in the valley floor. We spent today in Puy St. Vincent. The snow is wet well above 2300m. Higher up it is some strange form of styrofoam snow (due to the icy snow cristalls which formed parts of yesterday's snowfall). Sky is clearing right now (possible changing the wet snow to "interesting" crust tomorrow).

The snow was quite interesting today at Verbier. It started out with nice stormy powdery tree runs and then when the sun came out the snow got insanely heavy and wet. I was over at Savolyres for the afternoon and the snow was as sun baked and heavy as can get, but luckly I brought my 174cm snowboard and it was a breeze gliding on top of the fresh. No lines at the telecabin meant one 900m lap after the other under sunny skies. I did 7 runs in just the afternoon. :-) My friend on skis, however, got exhausted from skiing in such heavy snow.

Yeah, this was definitely the best mank day ever for me. Skis, however, are great for touring and getting out of flat spots. Splitboard, that is what I plan to purchase by next winter. :-)

Here's a report from the tribune de geneve

    http://www.tdg.ch/actu/suisse/morts-...hes-2010-02-28

Meanwhile back at the local mountains, it has snowed 1.4m!!! A nice 40cm enhanced the local ski area today, after we skied this yesterday.

    next weekend

So what is the place to go for some pow this weekend? I am flying in to Zurich on friday and have a rental car and are willing to drive a bit.... Is austria the best bet for this weekend? Have been looking at Montafon valley, looks like there are som snow on its way there.

What are the best alternatives for switzerland? Going to andermatt on tuesday 9 march.

How is Italy now? Have heard that courmayeur have been pretty good this year.

Is the conditions in chamonix area still good?

    Thks

    cham <> cour

it will snow in france in the next 48h and in the northern alps (switz/austria) on the weekend. generally i would go to france ski the fresh and do some steep stuff wenn the cold air comes in from the north and it gets sunny. the base in austria ist quite scary right now in terms of avie conditions.

but yeah the arlberg should see some fresh in the 20-40cm range.

Any idea what the longer term outlook for the verbier/cham area is? Ill be in cham from the 18th for 10 days. Really hoping that conditions will still be decent.

Conditions just get better.... All the "groomers" off the AM and PH should provide ample training for climbing higher!! Plus, now you know how to get down quickly!

If it is storming, run laps at the GM or Cour.... so you'll be ready to climb higher!!
