I'll be arriving super late tonight, or probably 9-10am-ish Fri morning.

Can anyone recommend a free wifi spot near the base? I may need to run some TPS reports from 1030-Noon Friday.

I think you can get free wifi at Looney Bean.

    FKNA
2.0 miles from 395 on right. 3.7 miles from Mammoth on L. FKNA sign taped to a ski and road marker. When u leave pavement look to your 10.00 and you'll see camp 100yds from road. My tent set on hill. "Road" zigs to get up there. That's all I have patience to post from my iPhone at Grumpy's while game is on.

So this means we're meeting at Grumpy's instead of Roberto's on Friday evening?

Hope to see some mags around the Mill today. Will be showing a non mag friend round in the morning, as it is her first trip to Mammoth. Beers out in the parking lot once the snow gets to slushy for me to deal with. Look for a blue Solvo wagon for a cold one.

We're considering moving FKNA about 200 yards closer to the mammoth side. Easier road access, but a fair amount of snow that we either need to find a way around, or plow through. If it moves, it will be after skiing this afternoon, and we'll move the signs. One down side to moving is that there's already a half-built (by nature) jump in the current FKNA that's begging for Schralph Shenanigans.

If anyone is still coming and thinks of it, bring a strong rake. There's lots of deadfall and pine cones in the campsite.

I drove up the road to Virginia Lakes. It is clear all the way to the lake. And the lake is still frozen enough to walk across. 120 is closed at the gate (you could still drive to the power station). Lots of good looking lines at Ginny - I may hit that with Turx & Cindy on the way home Monday.

I'm a little last minute in replying to the thread. Things have been pretty hectic lately. Since I'll be in three consecutive days of meetings out of town I'll be missing the mini.
I was at Mammoth last Saturday. Those of you who will be attending are in for a great time. The coverage is great. Hangman's looked more like a bowl than a chute. It skied very well. Phillipe's also has great coverage. The lower half and below served up very smooth snow.
I took a couple of recon photos of the scenic loop along with a couple of BC option photos.
First major Scenic Loop turnoff off of 395 on 5/7/11:

Inyo Craters road turnoff road on 5/7/11:

    Lundy Lake on 5/7/11:

This still looks skiable even if it doesn't look optimal.

    Virginia Lakes on 5/7/11:

This looks very inviting. The road is open to the trailhead parking lot.

Have fun this weekend. I wish I could be there.

Have fun liv2ski, sounds like you have a thirsty backup plan for lunch break

I mentioned mammoth yesterday and piggity jr instantly got sick, seriously. I'm jinxed with mammoth, every trip up since last april has been something. I might need to eat my pass money and find somewhere else to ski, kinda joking but not completely.

Well, down in town I woke up to a little snow on everything. Hopefully the peeps at fort fkna didn't freeze last night and we all get to enjoy a little fresh snow on the mountain today. Nice way to end a great season. Thank you Ullr for your blessing.

^^^ We froze last year. Why should it be any different this year. And besides, snow is an insulator.
