I'm pretty sure Mother Nature is gonna take care of at least all the "protesters" outside later today. Crying over the loss of your diamond tiara is hard enough on a warm sunny day.

It was good to see that both sides were able to scream at each other without any escalation so far.

One other difference: the old white conservitards aren't skipping out on their jobs, taking a "sickday" at the expense of the taxpayers and picketing illegally. And Gape - what's with this "we" stuff? Did you move to Wisconsin yesterday?
As far as any escalation is concerned - I'll bet this thing dies down pretty quickly now. Sooner or later even the dumbest libzombie has to realise he's screaming for a lost cause. Plus, there's a whole universe of "unfair" stuff out there for libs to get offended about. The whole diamond tiara thing is sooo last week.

The average entry level firefighters salary per year is around $30,000. The average entry level salary for someone with a 4 year degree in actuarial science (statistics and analysis) is $53,000. A private sector employee good with a graphing calculator and numbers has an average starting salary of roughly $20,000 a year more than a public sector employee who jumps into burning things for a living. I find that unacceptable. And I appear to be alone around here.
Those teachers took personal days btw, not sick days.
And good point about there being better things for the libs to be fighting about right now. Reminds me of a certain party that is trying to pass all kinds of bills against Planned Parenthood and shit right now. Because that is really fucking productive for creating jobs and fighting a deficit..
And this isn't going to die down soon, keep your eye on Ohio this week because the scenes will be very familiar. In fact, I would venture to say that tea baggers who have been groaning about these protests have actually helped raise awareness of this issue, so thanks!

$30,000 plus free medical and free pension = $60,000. For a guy with a GED or a legacy hire. Not too bad.
I hope the same thing happens in Ohio and every other State. Unions are exposing themselves to the voters for what they really are. Public unions are commiting suicide. KEEP GOING stupid fucks!!!I've been to two state fairs and a goat fuck and never seen anything like this!!

So if you find it "unacceptable", you must have donated a bunch of money to firefighters this year. How much did you give?
Bus drivers get injured a lot, how much should they get paid?

Not many, if any, get free medical and pension anymore. I pay almost $300 every month into my pension fund then another $250 into a 401k. Medical comes out to nearly free since I'm single, but with a family, I'd be paying $400/month or more out of my salary. Friends who work in the private sector I know have no worse, and sometimes better, benefits than I do. Personally, given the time off, I don't complain too much about my current salary. My previous job I made barely $33k/year with a master's degree and 3 years experience without a raise for 3-4 more years - if I hadn't moved, I would have HAD to get a second job in order to cover all my bills, student loan payments, etc. Moving to my new position I earned nearly a $15k raise, which was awesome, but moving from a rural area to the city soaked up a lot of that pay increase. Like I said, I don't really complain about the salary, as the vacation time more than makes up for it for me, but I can see where those with a family have to struggle a bit more to make it by on a teacher's salary. I also don't mind picking up a part time job in the summer to help augment the income, something that's not always an option for teachers with a family, as the child care often costs more than the extra income. I've known some teachers and particularly paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) who quit their jobs to be stay at home parents, because the cost of child care was almost as much as their monthly salary - more than their monthly salary in the case of a para.
As far as firefighters, the field is so competitive, it's hard to even get a volunteer job without an EMT-B and firefighter academy training. To be career, many have EMT-Paramedic and often more training/education including college degrees.
You can harp on the unions all you want, but most I've dealt with are very realistic in what they demand and work closely with the board of education and administration in their districts. I don't agree with everything the union works for, particularly the state and national level platforms, but new teachers entering the field are open to and encouraging things like "pay for performance" and more flexible tenure policies as opposed to the traditional salary schedules and job security of the past. The main problem with this bill is giving up the right to even have a say in what these benefits/pay are and how they will change. In my last district we worked directly with the superintendent to come to an agreement on the best way to deal with our shortages. We voted together for what we believed the best option was and presented our side to the superintendent. Together we came to an agreement on how best to deal with the situation. Without collective bargaining rights, it would be a top-down process with minimal input from the workers and their organization.Ride Fast, Live slow.

Where did you get the $30,000 from? I have my past benefit statements from the State while I was a State employee that showed how much my benefits cost. I can tell it the cost was not even close to $30,000. They were less than $10,000 and that was when benefits were much better than they are now.

Well, besides knowing WAAAY above average teachers, I must also know WAAAAAY above average firefighters. Two kids, nice yuppie house, big truck, one big vacation cabinmansion and building another, bigger vacation cabinmansion just down the road. I really wish I was struggling like him.
Getsdumb - the rest of your post is bullshit as well, but why bother? The gravey train has gone off the rails - I'm sure you'll figure it out on your own sooner or later.

Did anyone read the post way back about how these teachers already agreed to most of what the state wanted? Then the governor went after their right to collectively bargain. It isn't about the money.
Also, everyone realizes that the Governor intentionally passed a tax cut which took his state from having a surplus to a deficit overnight, right? Fiscally responsible conservative, sure...."These are crazy times Mr Hatter, crazy times. Crazy like Buddha! Muwahaha!"

It'll create jobs, just like all the other taxcuts and tax breaks over the past 10 years. Haven't you seen the unemployment number? It's only 9+%. GREAT SUCCESS.

Pretty sure the guy is in debt up to his outstreached fingers held way over his head. He is an idiot. His whole family are morons. I dated his sister back in highschool. She's not the one who got killed by the polar bear.
Rachel? Is that you? Char\\\'s Kool Aid
OSEX - good point. Talk about a real dangerous, thankless job. And many Eloi/libs regard them as meat heads.

Woops, got the budget deficit thing wrong, thanks for pointing that out Jer.
The larger point is that the Governor asked for concessions from the union, they gave them to him and then he went after collective bargaining. Never let a crisis go to waste..."These are crazy times Mr Hatter, crazy times. Crazy like Buddha! Muwahaha!"

Ohhhhhhh...... ok.

The "Never let a crisis" thing I agree with. Everybody's know for years how much Walker hates unions. That's why WEAC et al was in such a mad scramble to cut a sweet deal with the lame ducks last December. It was party time with Jim Doyle. Hell - he gave me $500,000 once just because I said he was rad. Why do you think WI has such a big "surplus (
) right now? Party's over. It's time to clean up the house before the parents get home. Walker said he was going to do this and a lot more during the campain. He got elected in a landslide. The screaming morons at the capitol represent about 1/10th of Wisconsin. They're fuct. They'd be better off screaming about the slow-speed rail.
