You may actually have a point if that was what it's about, but since your uneducated on the topic, I'll fill you in.

It's not only about teacher benefits, it's ALL public employees. He is not only removing the right to bargain, but removing the law that gives people the right to organize.

You don't see a problem with that?

I have no doubt the teachers union should have their reigns pulled back a little, but removing the right to organize for all is crap.

IMO, you wanna save money, how about stop buying new Ford pick-ups every year, I'm the taxpayer & I can't buy a new fricking car every year!

they can still organize. from what i heard they just cant collectively bargain for raises higher than the CPI. i could be wrong

ridiculous pensions are pretty much single handedly bankrupting several states, notably california. the reigns have to be pulled in more than a bit. again, there is a HUGE difference between negotiating with a private company and what goes on in public union negotiations, with one side having no accountability and playing with what might as well be bottomless pockets

Hi! Looks like the usefull idiots are out in full force in my home state. Dupes for the communist union leaders trying to relive the glory days.

America is about to burn. The most minimal attempt to budget cut leads to this in WI. Wait till President Christie lays down the law.

Somebody should tell these children that someone, for the first time in 30 years, is telling them the truth. The public union bubble is bursting. The party is over. Shut the fuck up and take your medicine like the rest of us.

This isn't about the $200 a month for healthcare. The union's communist organizers have a bigger agenda called burning down America so they can take it over.

I think every private sector employee in Wisconsin who took a $200 per month pay cut since 2008 or lost their job all together should riot in front of the union offices in their local towns.

If I were the Gov of WI or a mayor of a city who's public union employees were protesting instead of working, I would do everything I could to fire as many of these peices of shit as possible.

I can't imagine bigger examples of worthless spoiled human debris than public unions protesting in this situation.

I propose a new holiday. Tomorrow should be National Punch a Public Union Employee in the Throat Day.

Look, we get it, you don't support workers right to collective bargaining.

    Now for some facts:

The governor is refusing to accept his own share of responsibility for the state’s projected $137 million shortfall. Just last month, he and the Legislature gave away $117 million in tax breaks, mostly for businesses that expand and for private health savings accounts. That was a choice lawmakers made, and had it not been for those decisions and a few others, according to the state’s Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the state would have had a surplus.

Were those bad choices? I will leave that to the residents of WI to decide. However this entire charade is about busting Unions, plain and simple and dear to the hearts of Republicans. You have said as much in your recent postings.

Should the Public Service Employees share the pain and make some concessions? I think so but that is up to the State and the Unions to work out at a bargaining table.

Teaching is an extremely important component of our society. It is no cake walk. Many parents have abdicated their responsibility to see that their children are learning, paying attention and not being disruptive in the class room. Having said that:

If the money isn't enough or the hours too long, don't enter the profession.
I pay for all the continuing education in my profession (always have).
I can't organize and force my employer to pay me more.
I have worked over time and was not compensated (it's called being a salaried employee).
I'm taxed on my pension and healthcare. And, if those costs go up, at some point private sector employees see it in fewer raises/bonuses and can also be let go/fired. I can't recall many public sector employees being fired because of cost of living/economic issues (at least around here).

I don't get 2.5 months of paid summer leave, and two paid weeks for Christmas and one paid week for spring break and all the other paid federal holidays (that the vast majority of private sector employers do not recognize). The majority of private sector employees get 2 weeks paid vacation and another week to ten days (max) of personal and fed. holidays.

You don't enter a profession ignorant of present and future compensation and job rigor. If you don't like it find another job just as every other employee in our society is free to do.

This right to organize (public employee unions) when there is no competition from other sources is horse shit. Our military isn't allowed to strike for better wages. If anyone is under paid it's those folks. Public unions are extortion devices. No one is forcing you to work for a municipality. Don't like the terms, move on to greener more lucrative pastures.

Bunion, giving tax breaks to the sector of the economy that creates the economy makes sound business sense in a time when their isn't much sound economy.

Unions are out dated hold overs from a time when their were no employee rights. Those rights now exist for everyone. Unions are now nothing but legalized mafia type organizations.

I think all this would fit nicely in my "Greece is burning, are we next" thread from last year.

Unions throw a temper tantrum when they can't get raises or continued ridiculously cheap healthcare when the other 90% of society has been taking their lumps in a down economy? Weird.

You seem to be suggesting that the gov and legislature are doing all this in response to a $137 million shortfall that resulted from giving tax cuts to businesses. But that seems kind of silly in light of the $2.9 billion deficit that is projected over the next two years, don't you think?

Ilikecandy is right. The best solution for every problem is subtracted government services for the paupers and the middle class, plus higher taxes for the beggarly and middle class, plus (or, minus?) less taxes for the rich and for business. Doing the maths it all works out. That’s shared sacrifice that adds up!

Since you are broadening things, HALF this country pays ZERO federal income tax, and you are talking about shared sacrifice? Awesome

Excellent point Rubicon. Maybe there were two many words the first time around, so hows about an equation:

More taxes for the poor and the middles class + subtracted government services the poor and the middles class + subtracted taxes for the rich and for business = a short war followed by an awesome conservative victory in Wisco (and Michigan & New Jersey & a bunch of other UNION States)!

    Nice work O.

There comes a time when the grown-ups have to draw the line. Colective extorsion, I mean barganing won't cut it. EXACTLY as it works in the private sector, when things get bad enough the boss says "Hey everybody, you are all going to take a pay cut to save the business. If you don't like it, I'm sorry but you can take your services elsewhere. AND THAT'S NOT NEGOTIABLE".

When's the last time the place you work had employees picketing because they took a pay cut and the boss said sorry it's not open for discussion? It doesn't happen.

There is this crazy person named Glenn Beck who has said for a year that America was on the brink of union organised riots. All it would take was the slightest government action to balance budgets at union expense. Ha Ha Ha what a dumbass. That can happen in America.....

This is right out of the Alinsky / communist organising playbook. These selfish baby union workers are clueless who they are working for.

Wisconsin is going to set the precident. If they cave, America will burn, go bankrupt and become something the constitution wouldn't recognise. If they break the strike, and show the commies like Obama that the voters are in charge, they have a chance to save America.

Community organizing in action by organizations Obama was deeply involved with. These are the people, who put him in office. If he follows the playbook, Obama will stoke the fire not try to calm it down. And sure enough,he has already started with his comments yesterday.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...021705494.html

Obama accused Scott Walker, the state's new Republican governor, of unleashing an "assault" on unions in pushing emergency legislation that would nullify collective-bargaining agreements that affect most public employees, including teachers.

The president's political machine worked in close coordination Thursday with state and national union officials to mobilize thousands of protesters to gather in Madison and to plan similar demonstrations in other state capitals.

How Presidential....Helping Unions illegally strike against your states. Do you guys see it yet? Can you see who Obama is????

Obama and the unions are putting their long term plan into action.

Wait till people can't afford food and gas a year or two from now. A situation being created purposely by the administration. This is only the beginning. Obama was put into office to cause bankruptcy and chaos with the goal of ending America.

As we all know poor people suck. Obama & taxes suck too. Obama and the UNION are putting their long term plan into action. They must be stopped. So imagine robots are just like people. Robots can do all the jobs that people can do. Robots require similar resources to stay functioning like people do, but robots themselves can produce those resources just like people can. Robots will need teachers like people do, but robots themselves can provide that instruction just like people can. Robots can produce other robots, just like people can produce other people.

The main difference between robots and people is that robots are owned by people. They will be just like slaves. They will earn the same pay as people, but those earnings, minus the costs of the robots' upkeep, will go to the robots' proprietors. Just like slaves.

That’s why I objected to the whitewash of Huck Finn when they replaced the word “nigger” with “slave.” Why? Because human slavery is evil and it's good the founding fathers got rid of it, but robot slavery is the core traditional conservative value of the future once we defeat the UNIONs in the northern states'. Do you guys see it yet? Can you see how Obama and the UNION must be stopped!!!!
