    Gotama top sheet issues

I have a pair of 2009/10 Gotamas that the top sheet started chipping after the first run. I've noticed that a lot of people have had the same issue. Does anyone know if Volkl is covering this under warranty? Anyone have any suggestions on way to limit any further de-lamination and repair the damage already done.

Yeah this was pretty typical. Don't know of fixes maybe expoy?

I have heard though that all production is being pulled from China and moved back to germany and that a new gotama is on the way. yet another redesign.

It's mostly a cosmetic issue. Just sand down the rough topsheet edges with a file or rough sandpaper, and apply some epoxy to seal against water damage.

Volkl already improved the design this year to help with the problem. It'll probably improve more in the future. But for the problem you have now, just protect the wood core and go skiing.

Next season's are made in Germany. Production's already moved back. Be interesting to see if QC improves.

I'm not sure if topsheet chipping is a QC issue or more a matter of the materials/adhesives used.

I just got some 10/11s that have been used about 12 days and they're quite chipped up, so it looks like the problem isn't just with the 09/10s. I'm not too worried though, seems like a cosmetic issue.

You should stop skiing so close together.

You're fucking retarded. Quit banging your skis together and they wont chip, simple solution. No they wont warranty your skis because you ski like shit.

Which is why DPS skis suck and are universally hated.

To the OP, this is a common problem with the rockered version of the Got.
Also, it 's not likely constitute a warranty claim.

Take a file and put a bevel on the top edge, this will help but not eliminate the problem.
Mine are the 08/09's and while they have a fair number of chips, the skis are holding up fine with 100 plus days on them. The new model has a bevel to the top sheet, from what I have seen from some of my friends that are on them, these do not seem to be chipping.

I also have a few big chips in the top-sheet, and no, it's not from my skiing, but rather from other peoples skis banging into them on the gondola at Jackson Hole. However, it's really no biggie, and doesn't effect the performance, so I really don't care. It's something I heard about before I decided on the Gotamas, so I was prepared for that to happen.

Aren't you a fucking tough guy. The only thing I'm banging is my ball off your girls ass. If you like I'll carry you down a run and you can see how I ski big guy.

And it will be covered by warranty, I received this email from Volkl last night:

Please bring your skis into your local shop and have them send them back for you. Please tell the shop that you contacted us and that we recommended that they be sent back.

    Best Regards,

These skis are really sensitive to this issue for what ever reason, think K2's chipping x 100. I said something to rep last year, he acted like he had been hounded about this issue. It sounds like the bitching worked though. For our demo skis I had to clean up the chips and epoxy over them, this was only since we were going to sell them. If they were mine I would just ski them them.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
