Made a couple eggs in the new cast iron. Sunny side up under a Lodge cast iron lid that we seemed to have always owned. Forgot about the eggs for a while while I spent too much time cleaning up.
Turned out great. Complete float achieved.

Are you cooking on a high heat gas burner? Because if you're just using on a standard kitchen range, imho, woks don't really confer any advantages over pans. They are fucking awesome if you're working with a big flame that heats the entire wok but otherwise, meh.
I prefer a mandarin style wok without a carrying handle. If you want to cook larger amounts, then get a Cantonese wok. Dont buy the thick walled heirloom woks for $$$. The key attribute of a proper wok is rapid conductivity, both heating AND cooling.

I am not fancy like neckdeep but I got the Tramontina carbon steel wok from Costco on sale for like $20 and for $20 it fkn slaps. I'm a huge fan of Tramontina - great budget cookware, their SS clad pans are fantastic quality for price (they feel 95% as nice as Allclad) and the wok is great.
For carbon steel pans, speaking more broadly, I am an insane fan of Mauvel. Serious eats is too:

Apparently they make a wok too. If. I wasn't such a fan of the Tramontina I might check it out.

The advantage is they keep your noods off your range. I could not in one million years imagine trying to make pad Thai, etc in a fuckin frying pan.
Is the situation you describe ideal for wok cooking? Yes. But there are still significant advantages for certain techniques. I have a heavy, flat bottomed wok that transfers heat well. A carbon steel wok is much more challenging.

A carbon steel flat bottom wok is super useful in the home kitchen. Obviously stir frying but it’s also perfect for deep frying, braising, sauteeing greens, dropping a steaming basket in it, flipping upside down for naan and tortillas, etc.
In my mind it’s easily in the top 5 pots and pans a home cook needs.

The last GF gave me a 12" vintage skillet from a garage sale which is way bigger than I can ever use and heavy. I overheated/ fucked up the cooking surface so sanded it smoove with a red sanding disc, re seasoned and gave it to my daughter-in-law for x-mas

Give us a review when you use it please!
I gave my special lady friend a Smithey Dutch Oven as a gift before Thanksgiving. Thing is amazing. The lady at the store said as soon as they got Smithy in they started to out sell Le Creuset immediately. Really nice piece of iron and made in the USA!
