Part of me really wants to like dubstep (electro in general) but I can't really seem to get into it. I'm into really dark morose music any recs?

Bumping this thread because I've been curiously listening to some dubstep lately and was wondering how dubstep is different than all that wonderful dark, "industrial" electronic music from the 90s - NIN, Filter (their first album, Short Bus), Aphex Twin, KFMDM, etc.
A lot of it is pretty damn good mostly because I'm a fan of the aforementioned bands.
I feel like its one of these music sub genres that's becoming popular because a new generation of people are listening to music that's already been done.
Either way, its alright.

my taste in dubstep runs to the kitschy. i have a dubstepped out version of the inspector gadget theme song that slays.
