since i just purchased a TS2, it seems the TS3 is coming out soon with some significant upgrades. FML

Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-TS3 rugged compact camera (known as the FT3 in Europe), with built-in GPS, altimeter, barometer and a compass. It sports a new body design and and better waterproofing upto depths of 12m as against 10m of its predecessor the TS2. Like the TS2 it is also dustproof, shockproof against a drop of up to 2m, and freezeproof down to -10°C. The 12MP CCD-based camera with a 2.7 inch LCD and 28-128mm equiv. lens features 1080i60 HD movies (from 30p sensor output) and comes with the company's latest 3D photo mode.

Maybe. A lot of the upgrades sound kind of gimmicky to me. I am interested in how the new sensor performs. They cut down the pixel count somewhat and that could result in better performance.

I lost my much loved TS1 and wasn't quite sure the TS2 was an upgrade to the TS1, but the TS3 looks like an upgrade. I will absolutely buy one of these!!!

hmmmm, according to dpreview, burst mode goes from (ts2)
    • Full-Resolution Image
1.8 frames/sec Max. 5 images (Standard mode), Max 3 images (Fine Mode)
    • High-speed Burst Mode:
    Approx. 6.0 frames/sec (image priority)
    Approx. 10 frames/sec (speed priority)
    (recorded in 3M for 4:3, 2.5M for 3:2, 2M for 16:9)
    to (ts3)
    3.7fps, Full resolution
i would consider that an upgrade since if i'm doing the burst, i still want full res pics. Does that mean it runs until the card is full at 3.7 fps?

i think it's still a limited number of shots at full res, but it's still more than 5 (or 3). can't remember where i read it, but i think it's more like 10-20.

but yeah the full res burst speed is huge, it's too slow on the TS2 and the high speed burst mode isn't at full quality which is annoying.
