Cool wildlife documentaries for my nephew?

Hi, my nephew turns 13 shortly and he's really turning into quite the outdoorsman. He loves to ski and rockclimb and camp and has talked about becoming a wildlife documentary maker when he's older. I'd like to get him something for his bday along these lines, perhaps even find him a role model to emulate as he goes through high school.

He's already seen Blue Planet and Planet Earth countless times. I'm wondering what else might be out there, perhaps more on the indie side of the industry, ie, young guys with smaller budgets doing cool intelligent stuff.

I clicked through the Montana/Nat Geo videos with Casey Anderson, which is pretty much what I had in mind. Anderson shot a video called Expedition Grizzly produced by NatGeo:

    Any suggestions most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    ND

any Attenborough series should do. The life series is pretty amazing:

    # The Private Life of Plants (1995)
    # The Life of Birds (1998)
    # The Life of Mammals (2002)
    # Life in the Undergrowth (2005)
    # Life in Cold Blood (2008)

    Life (2009) is good too.

edit: didn't read your whole post. nevermind

The Attenborough series are outstanding. I always liked Marty Stouffer's "Wild America" series back in the '80s. I remember seeing the entire series available on DVD somewhere recently.

New film that might appeal to him is 'Wolverine, Chasing the Phantom'. Same producer did 'Life in Death Valley', on a shoestring, and it's pretty cool too. Her cinimatographer on that, mike single, did a pretty awesome low budget shoot on Antarctica which got him an Emmy.
