12-03-2004, 09:42 PM #3Yeah right dude, after I mount the binders I'll go ahead and rebuild the motor in the landcruiser in my garage...have you forgotten that in my line of work I break shit far more often (and effectively) than I do things like precision drill work. fucker.

i have not had any mounted but I would say the best shops are the Lift House and the Sports Den both do a great job. The sprots den mounted my axioms with axial 140 and did a great job no compalints.
If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

I had mine done at the lifthouse, ask for Chris. I believe he enjoys bottles of Coors org.
I'm happy with the results, btw

Any compitent shop should be able to do it. I just did mine today with S916s and a fat salomon jig fits nicely over spatulas provided you remove the rubber bumpers from the feet.

Maybe try the Deep Powder House at Alta. If anyone knows about mounting fat skis in Utah, it's prolly them.

SportsDen won't do them. You need a special (titanium?) drill bit to mount Volants because of the metal top sheet. Use the standard drill bit that they use to mount all other skis and you'll burn through a couple drill bits on just one pair of Spatulas.
Plus, having a ultrawide jig, or someone good enough to freehand them, is also a problem. (That is also why "any competent shop" most likely cannot, in fact, mount Spatulas.)

Just wanted to throw in my spatula mounting experience.
I drilled mine tonight and I used a wide solly jig with removed rubber feet per bossass's directions. Regarding bits, I used a 3.5 bit to get through the top sheet since it was narrower at the tip and then widened the hole with a standard 4.1x9. The 3.5 is longer than a 4.1 so be careful to just puncture the metal and not sink it the whole way. Then used a tap on the holes for threading the screws.
You may not need to go 3.5 before the 4.1 but my 4.1 was pretty dull to begin with and I was using a cordless drill so I wasn't making much progress. Before the 3.5 I tried going through the metal with a smal drill bit after marking it with the 4.1. I realized that guaging depth is rather diffcult and didn't want go through the base trying to get through the metal freehanding with a drill bit. The 3.5 ate right through the top sheet with out much wear and I didn't ruin any bits.
YMMV.

Huckslut works at the Peruvian shop. I skied with him and a guy from the shop that was on Spats. So I would guess that they could mount them.

Thanks y'all. And it better snow soon Xover, methinks there may be a disturbance in the jetstream in the form of a human head that we ought to investigate...

Mr. AG: Way to go DD! Get them mounted up, the way it was puking / piling up this afternoon, you are going to need them tomorrow.

Mr. AG after I saw you I started to work it out and my best run of the day was Eagle's Nest in the crud ..... I think I have them dialled in now

I can definitely recommend you speak to Andy or Craig at Peruvian if you need a pair, or if you need them mounted.
