    walkie talkie

Hello all, 1st post here - I was wondering if any of you had some recommendations on preferred walkie talkies to use while skiing/riding? Thanks for any insight!

Motorola talkabouts seem to work pretty well and the range should cover most ski areas. Most models come in pairs with drop-in charger docks (rechargeable batteries included) for anywhere from $25.00-$80.00
More $$ gets you longer range and longer battery life.
Faster than dialing a cell phone and pretty much no dead zones. (except when there are) Most units have a bunch of channels so privacy isn't much of an issue.
A lot of mountains have either no cell service or a lot of no service areas which could make an inexpensive walkie talkie a good substitute.

On a side note; when I worked in a shop at the base of Sugarbush south, we would frequently scan channels and anonymously heckle people on the radio.
Yep, that was me. What can I say? We were bored.

When someone JONGs you and tells you to post in tech talk it doesn't mean they want you to keep the old thread in ski/snowboard.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

    Related question:

I've been thinking of tying my Motorola T3 to my pack strap so it's always nice and accessible. Just thinking about snow getting inside from weather/falls and whether or not that's going to affect the speaker/mic at the time or fuck the internals when it melts. Granted I scored them cheap but don't want them to break either. Anyone done this with good/bad results?

the talk-abouts are somewhat weather resistant. I have ten year old ones that have had contact with a decent amount of snow, and they still work.
