Sigma 100-300 f/4?
Due to a dope smoking UPS driver my 70-200 f/4L I bought from Aenigma on here got stolen from my buildings front steps. Now that I am out of a lens and am still in the market for something longer I was thinking about my choices.
Right now I have an EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 and a 24-105 f/4L. So the inclusion of the 70-200 f/4L will be some major overlap. I liked the one I borrowed but in hindsight it probably wasn't my wisest choice when I jumped on buying it. I could get a 70-200 and get rid of the 24-105 but I would rather not sell it in case I eventually go to a FF body and I like it anyway.
So how is the Sigma 100-300 f/4? That gives me very little overlap and would give me a 3 lens quiver that I think could handle everything that I could throw at it. I have never used a Sigma but the reviews of this lens online seem pretty positive. Anyone own or use one? Is that the lens I should be looking at? Other suggestions?
I'll probably be buying after the holidays and after UPS refunds their fuckup so it's not a rush decision.
thanks.

It just came in the mail. I'm excited to get snapping with this monstrosity. Even more excited that I don't have to think about glass for a while

Yeah because that whole post detailing what I had and what I was looking for and asking for advice was ripe with sarcasm...

It has pretty good reviews as I have read and I got it for less than they are selling for on FM so I guess I can always sell it and recoup my losses if it does turn out to be a POS.
And, if it DOES turn out to be a POS, I would personally like to thank you and your noble wisdom for letting a long time member (just as long as you sparky) talk about buying an expense lens and you just letting them go ahead because you aren't cool enough to explain the downfalls and then make fun of them after the purchase. Or maybe you are just fucking with me. Either way, it's safe to say you are a cunt.

Not until he looks at the actual resolving capacities of the lens. I laughed, though.

Aghh a client of mine just had twins and I have been filling in for him at the agency. I have so goddamn busy I haven't had time. Plus with the blizzard and butt cold temps I haven't really had the motivation either.
Next week I start my photography workshop so I'm sure it'll light a flame under my ass to get out and shoot. Sorry, I've been lame, but what else is new, yeah?

Well I had a little free time so I just ran a few test shots from my deck. Not artsy or anything, the tripod isn't even level but figured I would throw these up if anyone is interested.

Looks very nice indeed. Were these wide open at f/4, or did you stop it down? I have the 24-105 as well, and will be looking for something longer in the near future.

Those were all at f/4 100iso. Had it on aperture-priority mode so the 4 varied from 1/1000 to 1/1600.

And just as a frame of reference... here is the same shot (roughly) at 17mm.
