Just though I'd throw this up, as I'm not sure that many/any mag's have had a chance to ski these. As far as I know the only onnes currently in existence are the proto's that Scott pressed last spring, and some 176's and some test press 186's.
So being that I'm waiting on these like a few other people, and sadly not every day is a Billygoat day. I took advantage of the fact that I live almost within stumbling distance of the ON3P factory to steal the proto's.
Over 2 days the I was lucky enough to ski in a pretty varied range of conditions. Anything from boot deep pow, wind effected pow, crusted pow, skied out crud, bumps, groomers etc.
Taking off for the first run on Thanksgiving with the family. I warmed up by shredding some fresh 'roy. First turn was magic. The ski's locked into turns, and inspired a ton of confidence. I kept going faster, and faster trying to find a speed limit beyond my own personal one, and I never felt sketchy. They transitioned from edge to edge well for a ski with a 104mm waisted ski. tails released when I wanted them too. The rest of the day I spent hitting everything Meadows had open, most of it was skied out and bumpy. the Vicik's charged over around and through everything I threw in their way.
I returned Sunday to boot deep pow, some of it blower, and some of it wind effected. The rockered tip let me charge while preventing the tips from diving. This is one of the things I was looking for. On skied out chopped up crud the Vicik's TRUCKED. Completely blasting through crud.
The Vicik's have a playful, and poppy side to them too. It's not all serious business all the time. I think the bamboo and carbon do a good job of letting you pop off stuff and play around in varied terrain.
I'm not an amazing skier, but the Vicik definetely brought me up another level. Stuff that I normally would take it easy on, I just charged.
This is the ski I have been looking for as my daily driver. My girfriend at one point this weekend had to tell me to shut the fuck up about how in love I was with the Vicik. Can't wait to get mine.
***UPDATE***
I skied my final production version yesterday. I was one of the very first to pre-order. And waiting for shipping and whatnot is a moot point.
Mine are mounted on the line with STH14's.
I was only able to spend about 2 hours on them due to other commitments later in the day. But it was an awesome 2 hours. We havn't had any appreciable snow in the past few days at Meadows so the lower mountain is a skied out mess. Vicik's ate it up on and off the groom.
The upper mountain opened shortly after the lower and that's when the real fun started. It was a mixture of boot deep cascade concrete, and sweet smooth wind buff. They floated where they needed to float, and charged where they needed to charge. I never hoot and holler but I caught myself doing so yesterday. I haven't been on another ski that instilled such confidence. I'm kind of a pussy, and it helps to have a ski that tells me to cowboy the fuck up and charge it.

Thanks for the review, but you are not making the wait for my 186 Viciks any easier. It sounds like they are exactly what I am looking for as my daily driver. I just hope they arrive soon. I know they are woth waiting for, but the wait is killing me.

They are in no way a soft ski, I had concerns about this too and was pretty much reassured by Scott that the flex difference is actually actually very minimal. The production ones are supposed to be a little stiffer than the ones I took out. They are typical ON3P...BURLY!

The company bills the Viciks as a softer narrower version of the Wrens. Since nobody seems to be complaining that the Wrens are too stiff, I was just curious how a relatively big guy feels about the flex and camber of the Viciks. Obviously, they rock, but I am looking for a big guy perspective. If the Viciks really are absolutely perfect for a 220 pounder, I would assume they are way stiff for a 165 lb. skier. I am just trying to get a more accurate read on how they ski, since there are no other reviews of them out there yet.
ON3P will lay in a little more carbon if you want to stiffen up your Viciks, and I am trying to figure out if that is a good idea for a guy my size.Gravity Junkie

Sounds like the wren. I remember the spring day of thick slushy, cushy crud when I took the Wrens out. Could not believe how well they mashed through everything. They have an ideal stiffness for a big guy's (200lbs here) daily driver who likes speed, but definitely a flick like turnability.
Scott, if you're reading this, I sent my buddy over who should be giving you a call. Sounds like he's looking for a ski like a Vicik, after considering a Gotama... He's a JONG, but Take care of him, mang.

thanks for the review...you didn't happen to get a photo of the profile of the Viciks did you?

The Wrenegade and the Vicik have essentially the same core. The Vicik IS a skinnier Wren, not is like a skinnier Wren. I think they are only a touch softer. I haven't skied them myself, but imagine them to be pretty similar in the crud busting category to the Wrenegade. The Vicik will be better on groomers and the Wrenegade better in pow, otherwise I imagine they would be pretty comparable. I don't have any problems on groomers on my Wrens though, so I don't really need the need for Viciks myself........yet.

I'm about 215 lbs and I had Scott add a little bit of carbon underfoot. He said they would be fine otherwise, but if I was worried he could do that. After all these comments, I'm now having second thoughts. Hmmmmm. I'm sure they'll be good either way.

Similar core profile, though not the exact same. The Vicik begins to taper off earlier than the wren, giving the vicik a slightly rounder flex. Bit softer because it is not only more narrow but is also profiled a bit thinner.
As for the super, super stiff vicik discussed above. These are vicik with full carbon strips running tip to tail, top & bottom, made for someone weighing in ~ 290 lbs. I'm actually worried they might not be stiff enough!
If I talked with you about adding a bit of extra carbon, I still think you are ok to go that route. The tips and tails will remain the same. Just going to give you a bit more support underfoot.

I am in exactly the same boat and had second thoughts after reading the OP's review. I talked to Scott yesterday and he confimed that a just little extra carbon underfoot (not the entire length of the ski) would dial them in for us heavier guys. It will not affect the overall tip to tail "big smile" flex pattern. He also said they hope to be shipping out the pre-order 186 Viciks next week. Handmade custom skis, incoming!
