Thread: Sirius "Deep Tracks"

I pretty much hate Sirius, the sound is mediocre at best, most of the stations suck, they nuked X-Country when they took over XM and that was the best thing on either channel, "Jam On" is pretty good sometimes but apparently it's morphing into Pearl Jam Radio (all Pearl Jam, All The Time! wtfingf?!?), but.

But, Deep Tracks rocks. They routinely pull out cuts I haven't heard for 20 years or more and they also routinely play stuff I've never heard before, but which is good.I'd say that it's about 2/3 60's-early 70's and the other third includes stuff right up to yesterday once in a while. The sets are sometimes mind-blowing, really well-thought-out little masterpieces of the segue. You never hear songs frequently, there is no rotation and they'll play anything from Alice Cooper to Zeppelin and back.

So, check it out before they nuke it. They're bound to kill it just because it's good, but give it a listen before they get around to it. It might broaden your horizons a bit. At least it will be entertaining, which is better than most radio these days.

Deep Tracks has definitely introduced me to some good stuff I'd never heard before. I dig the sirius bluegrass channel too, although I'm not sure the name of it. Could just be bluegrass? Anyways, the shows seem to vary and I prefer the up-tempo picky stuff to the waltzes and ballads, but they do a good enough job of delivering the goods to keep me coming back time and time again.

I have had XM since 2005 or so, and always felt like XM had stronger music selections than Sirius (even though Sirius had the NFL, at least XM has NHL).

I still feel like XM had the stronger music options, and that Sirius basically ruined the music on XM, but Soul Street, 60's on 6, and a few of my other favorites are still more-or-less intact, but I preferred XM Comedy over "Raw Dog", but what are you going to do?

Deep Tracks? Very good. I find good stuff on Classic Vinyl, too...

Little Steven just took over as head honcho for 'outlaw country' (good lord, I am getting sick of Mojo Nixon) so maybe there is hope.

yeah, the real problem with satellite is that they put zeeero effort into creative playlists. I really found this out when I was in a routine last year of turning on the same station at the same time for about an hour each day and it was almost always the same songs on the same schedule.

Just extremely disappointing. I wish there was a way to do pandora in my car.

I listen to pandora in the car all the time through my phone. Newer cars all have bluetooth but I just use one of those old tapes with the wire coming from it...

when satrad first started they said this is going to be different than terrestrial, but then they hired all the fucktrds suits who made FM horrible. limited song lists & pimp the new stuff over and over all day and all night.
but that said i do love me some deep tracks( best classic rock station around).
backspin & the GD channel are also quite tasty.

Deep Tracks kicks ass 24/7. Jam On is normally good, but sometimes I get tired of the heavy moe. > String Cheese > Phish rotation. They just moved to a new channel...I hope there aren't plans to get rid of the station since they play some good stuff the other channels won't touch.

I also rock the Dead channel, Underground Garage, and Lithium a lot, and a bunch of others for variety. Honestly I'm pretty pleased with satellite and plan to subscribe indefinitely (I've already had it for 4+ years) unless they really fuck up.

I really wish Fungus was still around! Faction fucking sucks. Jason Ellis is a tool, and they don't play nearly enough good punk.

Well not to be snippy but did you read the OP? Deep Tracks does exactly what you are looking for. You may not like their brand of music but if you lisen you will see that they bring intelligence and knowledge to their sets.

And this is perplexing to me. Pandora is almost random, it's the dead opposite of creative playlists, the computer does it all except for the initial classification of each song.

btw in a lot of modern cars you can play Pandora or whatever else you can find on the internet through the car stereo via Bluetooth or sometimes via the micro usb port on your phone. You do have Bluetooth and a micro usb port on your smartphone, right?

You can also just run the 1/8" jack straight from your smart phone or even a tape adaptor.

we don't get espn radio here... love sirius for that, oh, and they brought back backspin radio... that's my joint yo...

I's also limited to about 200 songs per opening artist/genre. Pandora is more predictable than Rhapsody's "Artist" Radio .

Shit - you can get a cassette interface and plug it into your phone's headphone jack. Unfortunately you better have an unlimited data plan on your phone (and they're going the way of the Dodo) or you're gonna pay a shitload of money a month.

I'll have to give Deep Tracks a listen. It sounds promising. If Howard goes off the air at the end of the year I'm pretty likely to cancel my Sirius subscription. Right now channels 100 and 101 are the only ones I ever listen to.

I'm in this boat. If Stern leaves (which I'm betting he won't), there are few redeeming channels left. 124-NFL, 18-Spectrum, 10-Springsteen and USirius - maybe 26?

I didn't really get the point across at all but I guess what I meant to say was that I wish the other stations were as well thought out as Deep Tracks.

i always found deep tracks to be hit or miss, but a good alternative to classic vinyl playing the same songs every month.

The Joint is pretty solid.
the station I really enjoyed was real jazz. ditto for the dance&electronic stations.
