    Gotama vs. The Answer?

Hello, I am new here so please forgive me if I'm asking this in the wrong place, or asking in the wrong way.

I have been manically buying skis over the summer and I now have a 194cm 2010 Gotama+Baron @ 334 BSL. But now I think I want The Answer 191cm instead.

Question: Can anyone offer a good comparison between the two? This ski will fit between my Watea 94+Baron and Kuro+Griffon (also neither of which I have used yet).

Also, would the new Marker Tour be a good choice for The Answer?

The Goats+Barons are new and I'm willing to let them go for $700 so I can be on my way to The Answer, if someone here can say it would be a better quiver fit.

Thanks in advance for your patience and any advice you all can offer.

    Russell

Congrats on 1/2 of a good move...

And I have no idea, but wish I had your kind of $$

    Cheers

Really ^^^^. Anyway, own/have owned various Goats, an Argos, suspect the Answer is beefier than the Goat, stiffer in front, probably better for maching variable snow, not as quick or slithery, touch heavier. Doubt most people's first choice for touring unless they weigh 200+. So depends on your size, how you ski, and where. Have you tried any iteration of any of the other skis you bought? Did you get them for any particular feel or handling characteristic, or because of price/reviews/graphics?

Can't speak to the binding questions, try a search, mainly depends on what you're using the skis for. Have a hunch the new Markers are gonna be a bit light to drive the Answer, probably fine for the Goats, just based on specs and mission.

having used last years 194 Goats with dukes as a one ski quiver, I really cannot say enough good things about them, lots of fun in powder, never really found a speed limit i was not comfortable with, can slash turns easily to speed check and the elp lets you rip on groomers too, i could go on.... I'm 6'2" 240lbs and ski hard so I can guarantee you wont be disappointed. cant really say anything on the answer though

pssst....why don't you put your credit card down, hop off the interwebz for a little while, and just go ski them? Seriously.

I have skied both. I own Answers. I have the 184cm Answer and have skied the 186cm Gotama.

The Gotama has more rocker, no metal, and is softer. It has a more playful feel, and is easy to pivot/smear around while still carving well. It floats better than the Answer.

The Answer is much more of a traditional ski. It is stiffer, has metal in it, and although they market it as tip & tail rocker, it's basically flat camber throughout. It is much more damp, stable and smooth through chop. It doesn't have the pivoty feel that the Gotama does, it has more of a on-rails feel. Answers are quite a bit heavier.

Both are fun, both would fit well between a Watea 94 and a Kuro. Just a matter of preference.

Thanks. Why does SKImag rate Goat 'Intermediate' and Answer 'Expert'? Is that just a proxy for stiffness?

Pretty much. More rocker = shorter runnin length = easier to ski. It doesn't mean the ski sucks. Its just more accessible to more people.

Stop thinking so hard. Just go ski what you got. You have a sweet quiver.
