True words of wisdom from Tom Brokaw.
Every now and then good things come from coffee cups (besides coffee...
).
Starbucks used to have this thing where they'd print interesting sayings and writs of wisdom on their cups...and you always looked forward to what the new cup was going to say. They don't do that anymore, the bastards, but I still remember the old ones.
I came across one that I liked so much that I cut the damn thing out and posted it in the bathroom where I do much of my philosophizing...I've got paragraphs from Albert Einstein to Gandhi in there. It's saying #130 and it's by one leveled-headed guy...Tom Brokaw.
The Way I see it:
"It will do us little good to wire the world if we short-circuit our souls. There is no delete button for racism, poverty or sectarian violence. No keystroke can ever clean the air, save a river, preserve a forest. This transformational new technology must be an extension of our hearts as well as our minds. The old rules still apply. Love your mother...Mother Earth." Tom Brokaw.
The part I like best is the first sentence: "It will do us little good to wire the world if we short-circuit our souls". Tom Brokaw is a straight-up guy.

I'd like to see a "Bumper Sticker" serial killer. Some guy who pulls up behind dopes with a "Kill Your TV" bumper sticker, gets the dope to roll down his window, then says "Your Television sent me" and blows out the dope's brain with a .45.

The truly odd thing is you go through the hassle of typing it out in every post rather than simply making it your automatic signature.
Oh, and Tom Brokaw made his money on... TV.

A great discussion from him here:
The blues has always been about taking your problems and turning them into something you can dance to, drink to and fuck to.
We're certainly not a blues band in any kind of purest sense, but to me Rock and Roll has always had it's roots in that tradition.

Interesting comment from Tom Brokaw. I wonder where he lives, and how he lives.
How may homes does he own. Shine a light on his lifestyle and anything he says about the environment is BS
(I only suspect) I have no idea
He live in either the DC or Greater NYC area and sucks the marrow of the entire country to support his lifestyleOwn your fail. ~Jer~

If I am not mistaken, Mr. Brokaw has a ranch over near Livingston MT.
Friends from the area say he is a good neighbor and a nice guy.

I don't the particulars, but Brokaw is a pretty stand up guy and not an over consumer that his wealth would allow. Hell one of his buds is Yvon Chounard, so he's got that always looking over his shoulder.
...and Starbucks? Do people actually drink that shit? Or do you just stop in for the pithy sayings?
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

Him and Al Gore should get together. Two washed up has beens can regale each other with words of wisdom and psycho fantasies. Too perfect. A-a-and we'll publish it all on paper cups! Would that be bad for the environment?

An expert speech therapist was quoted once: "In standard American English there are two [l]s, light and dark. Light [l] is used at the beginning of a syllable and is made with the tongue tip, and dark [l] is made with the tongue blade. Compare "la" with "all" and notice where your tongue constricts. Some people (Tom Brokaw being the most famous) have only dark [l], and many people hear it as almost a [w]."
