Thread: Alta is for Nazis

It is nice that you think that I am talking about you. I said it is not a good mountain for snowboards, and I don't want you there. Maybe you would like it, and you would not fuck it up, but snowboarders, in general would change it - and we don't want it to change.
Then don't bring it up. Simple.
Fine, then do. There is nothing stopping you from hiking Alta. Why all the rage?
The families I was referring to aren't the locals trying to get season passes. They are the group that travel out for a week each year and buy day tickets. And stay in the lodges. And do it for the great snow, terrain and because there are no snowboarders. This is the cult I was speaking of. These are the people who really care.
Actually, it is the screaming assholes who keep Alta in check. If you one plankers were allowed on the mountain, you would see that at Alta, the lower traverse tend to not happen. That is because of the screaming assholes. It helps keep the snow in good condition.
And,as it has been said, plenty of skiers can fuck up the traverses, but the Alta culture is to yell at them until they ski fall line. Ever time there is a step up in the traverse, to get over a feature, there would be a lower line created by the snowboarder who did not want to take off their board, and hike up, and the suck would begin.
Really, they aren't that bad. I enjoy riding with my friends, or least the ones willing to hike. But it always takes a bit longer. Traversing and side stepping is so much faster than taking off the gear and boot packing. My snow boarding buddies need to work twice as hard to get from A to B.
And yes, I have plenty of lazy snow boarding friends and plenty of lazy skiing friends. I'm fine with the fact that they do not want to work too hard. I just ski with other friends, who do work for it, on powder days.
BTW, I've only skied Alta two days. So I really don't care that much. But I still think it is funny that people are so butt hurt over it.

I can't resist. Let me into this awesome preseason thread.
My 0.02 - I've been thinking about a trip to Utah, solely to ski Alta. Back in the good old days when snowboards were banned just about everywhere the powder seemed to last longer and ski better. The bumps were more even with better rhythm. I'd like to ski Alta to verify it's the snowboards that mess shit up, and not just faulty memory applying the rosy shades. Based on what I see at the local hill - hiking past the snowboarders, or just traversing one gully further, produces much better conditions.
I suspect that Alta is on to something, and skiing really is better without snowboarders. Peace through truth.

I snowboard, and really could give a shit if a ski area wont let me ride there. From talking to buddies that have lived/skied at Alta for many seasons who I currently ride with, the traverses would suck balls on a snowboard, and to many clueless snowboarders would fuck them up, creating mindless pissing matches between skiers and snowboarders.
Really, who needs a ski lift anyway? Buy a spitboard and never think about liftlines, costume parties, and tourist assholes ever again as you enjoy the endless powder runs, serenity, and track free landscape in the wasatch/tetons/sierras....wherever the fuck you want with those you really want to be around....perfect.
I HOPE alta never allows me, cause theres to much out there to worry about a place that takes up 1/100000000000th of the places I CAN ride....and buying lift passes blows anyway.

Fat skies have given shitty skiers the confidence to be almost as annoying as snowboards in the various manners listed above. It used to be the sole responsibility of snowboarders to scrape out nice lines with heelside falling leafs. Fat rockered skis have helped skiers share the idiocy. In a few more years we should see true equality.

For every boarder leafing down your "stash" there's an upper advanced skier putting jump turns and hockey stops down every steep chute that should be skied/ridden smoothly. Seriously it happens, get over it.

QFT
QFT
QFT.
I'm so glad that someone brought up the jump-turn/hockey stop technique skiers use from time to time. Look, lets face it, there are some lines that require you to slarve an edge to set up your next move. You see the pros doing this all the time. I'm not talking about sliding the whole line sideways, I'm talking about employing the proper technique at the right time to keep your ass from tumbling over the exposure below you. (Damn, that post is really close to belonging on EpicSki
)
Oh wait, that's right, this is TGR and everyone posting on here is radder than Sage, and JJ so no one side-slips anything.........ever
We all charge down everything with incredible speed, making huge wide open turns over any terrain. And that's why we're all spansered.
(get over yourselves)
Seriously, who gives a rats ass that Alta doesn't allow snowboarders? From the sounds of it, a decent portion of the people skiing Alta are self-important douchebags any way.
Now if it'd just start puking, everyone would shut the fuck up and get back to what matters, having fun with your friends in the mountains.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people around here are wound so tight. Ya'll need to get out from behind your cubes and go skiing.
Nice troll by the way Das....even if it was unintentional...saying something negative about Alta on a ski forum is like calling Allah a fag in Mecca.the-one-track-mind

Oh the out-of-towners... yeah they really "care". They are totally here in the lean snow years supporting the resort.
You manage to diss locals and sound like a idiot at the same time. STFU.
Every spring some of those douchebags come over to Snowbird after Alta closes. They stop in the middle of the cirque traverse and act like total gapers. They must be some of your out-of-towners though because the Alta/Snowbird locals I know rip.
I think it's funny that you wrote all your bullshit opinions after two whole days at Alta. STFU about what you don't know.

Working on that whole clarity for internet sound bite thing. Perhaps I should have replaced 'care' with 'give a shit... about the snowboarder thing.' I was not making a claim about the financial support in lean years (I did not know lean years existed). But these people do stay in the lodges when they go. I'm not sure how you got that I am dissing the locals? But, I was referring to the people who I have met in my life that fit the description of visiting families. No dis intended.
Oh, okay. Are you sure it is the same douchbags?
Really? I mean it is the internet, on a ski forum, in autumn.
It is a fun thread by all means, with all the angst.
And, it was actually more like a day and a half. I spent the morning waiting for bookends to open up. It was worth it.
